Amelia's POV It was quite a humiliating experience to have been caught kissing Ryder, by his twin brother. All that people heard was the ruthless alpha, but then, no one had ever spoken of him having a twin brother. At first, I wanted to call it an illusion, but then, the mystery figure I was staring at what looked like a carbon copy of Alpha Ryder. Though, he had seemed like the much calmer version of his alpha brother. “Rogan…” Ryder called out his name, as he let go of me to turn to his brother completely. “What are you doing in here?” “Well… I should be asking you that.” Rogan retorted at his brother in a way that had me wondering if he had suddenly forgotten just who his alpha was. “The whole town is in an uproar about doing this very thing that you have just done right here. And here you are, comfortably doing it all over again.” “The fact that we are twin brothers hasn't suddenly annulled the fact that I'm alpha, and you are not.” Ryder seemed to be on the verge of losing his cool but was able to hold back somehow. “If you feel I'm challenging your status, then you're wrong. I'm just saying you should live up to the title that you are so passionate about,” Rogan said. “The fact that you are alpha doesn't change the fact that we were twin brothers and that I'm your beta.” Ryder was silent for a moment, as he appeared to be thinking of the perfect reply for his defiant twin brother. To make it all worse, Rogan walked out on him before he could come up with his comeback. I could almost feel his pain from where I was standing. He was most certainly having a hard time keeping himself from falling apart. But then, I hoped that I wouldn't be the helpless victim that he would take out his frustration on. Just as that thought flashed through my head, he turned to me with indignant eyes. “And you…” he snarled at me, as though I was the cause of all his problems. “Who the heck did you say you were?” “I… am Amelia Gaines from the Dark Moon pack,” I managed to get the words out at that point, as I was under the intensity of his gaze, which felt like it could bore a hole through my very soul. “But… I thought you were aware of the exchange…” “I was aware of the exchange, but then, I wasn't expecting you to be the one to be exchanged for your alpha's atrocities,” Ryder sounded like he had been pained. “Too bad that the alpha was my father,” I said, trying my best not to sound too pitiful, but then, I hoped that my words would somehow get into his stony heart which seemed most impregnable. “I was exchanged to you by my father.” “That's none of my business,” Ryder snapped suddenly, frightening me out of the pity party I was trying to throw. “Even though we are mates, that doesn't change the fact that you are a prisoner.” He was almost sounding like his brother had been sounding a couple of moments ago. Every one of them seemed anxious to establish their place. “Just in case you were thinking that this would be one of those fairy tales where we would end up being together, all because of some flimsy mate bond.” Ryder breathed those words arrogantly, as though he was solely aiming at hurting me. “So snap out of whatever fantasies—” “With all due respect, alpha… I don't want any of this either,” I put in all the effort behind trying to sound as persuasive as I could. “I just want to go home…” Ryder's facial expression had suddenly changed, which had me wondering if I had just said something wrong. It almost felt like I had just picked up from where his brother had left off. Before I could apologize for my words which seemed to have offended him, he turned around and made for the door. “Are you going to let me go or not?” the desperation that had built up in me had made me forget about the fact that he was the savage alpha that everyone feared. “Quite audacious, you are…” he said before he shut the door on me. That was nothing short of weird. How could I have been mated to a man like that? Was the moon goddess playing tricks on me or what? First, it had been Grant who had tossed me away like a piece of trash, now it was this savage who had me prisoner. My predicament was beginning to hurt more than the wounds that were underneath my feet. The fact that the mate pull was gnawing at me incessantly had me wondering just how long I could exist within those walls. I had to get out of there somehow. But then, how was I going to do that? *** Ryder's POV It had felt like I had been holding my breath all the while I had been speaking with Amelia. Her irresistible scent had been in my nostrils all the while. How in the world was I going to live normally, having my mate in the same building where my fated was in? Was the moon goddess trying to teach me a bitter lesson by that or what? My heart was heavy with ways to make it up to Tara. That kiss that had happened between me and Amelia was not going to be forgotten anytime soon. ‘The feel of her lips…’ Rex still wouldn't let me think straight, as he was literally begging for more of Amelia. That was off limits for the time being. ‘Not now, Rex…’ I tried resisting, but my mind was helplessly swaying that way, as I envisioned how nice it would be to have her in bed. I was on the verge of letting out a scream, as I approached the door to my room. “Are you alright?” Kylian's voice suddenly took me out of my deep thoughts, as he almost seemed like he had been trying to sneak up on me from behind. “Obviously not…” I muttered, letting out a frustrated sigh. “I really need to—” “My lord…” one of my men suddenly interrupted the conversation we were trying to have as he came in running. “The girl is attempting to escape…” “What?”
