Amelia's POV “I, Gray Holt, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, reject Amelia of the Dark Moon Pack as my mate,” he snarled at me in front of everyone. “There's no way an alpha of the Silver Moon could be bonded to someone as weak as you.” “Mate… please...” I begged with tears. “Don't do this to—” “I will not hesitate to have your tongue ripped out if you call me by that ever again," Gray held my neck as he breathed out his hateful words to me. “From now on, it's Alpha Gray, and not mate. Got that?” I couldn't believe that my world was falling apart right in front of me. The man who had been so loving and caring, the day before, was now threatening to rip out my tongue. It was just too much to take in at once. “Got that?” he yelled at me again, as I nodded frightfully. “Good girl. Now get out of my sight…” The mocking laughter of everyone around me grew louder and louder to the point where I couldn't feel my heartbeat. Perhaps my heart was broken to the point that it couldn't beat. “Please… mate…” I said with teary eyes, as Gray turned his back on me. “Please mate…” I said as I suddenly woke up, gasping. The worst day of my life kept playing over and over in my dreams whenever I slept, and it happened just after that man had knocked me out. Instantly, I realized the eyes that were fixed on me from the other side of what looked like a cell I was in. Suddenly, the two men looking at me burst into laughter. They had been watching me all the while, even as I said, “Please mate” when I woke up. That seemed to be what had them cracking. “She's delusional as well,” one of the men remarked as he briefly stopped laughing. “Too bad, she would have to be put to death by sunrise. I would have loved to be entertained by her antics a bit more.” “What?” I whispered to myself in shock, as I heard what my fate would be. My heart nearly sank at that. “Alpha Ryder is going to put an end to your miserable life in front of everyone once the sun rises.” The other man said, just in case I hadn't understood what his fellow had said. “If you don't mind, you might want to put up one last show for us before you meet your death.” I didn't get what he meant by that, but I knew for sure that it didn't mean well to me. Suddenly, the men undid the lock on the cell's door, went in, and locked the door behind them. “What are you doing?” I asked frightfully as I sat up on the floor. I could barely move my body, let alone stand up to defend myself from the two men. “We'll make this much easier for you if you play along,” the first one threatened as his hand reached for my breast in the darkness. I quickly slapped his hand away. “Don't touch me…” I said, knowing where I got the audacity from. Before I could say any other thing, he put his hand on my throat and pressed me down to the floor angrily as I tried to fight it. “I knew right from the start that pesky creatures like you would love taking it the hard way, and that's just how I'm going to give it to you,” he said, squeezing my breasts angrily. The other one had his hand on my mouth, even though I was too quick to scream. I was overwhelmed by hopelessness, as it was clear that they would probably have their way with me until daybreak. It was unbearable to realize that I would have to endure such hostility before facing my death. “What the…” someone said in the darkness, as the lights suddenly came on. “You bastards… get off her!” “My lord,” they both sprung up to their feet, quivering in fright at the almost towering presence of the man who had saved me just in the nick of time. “I might as well leave the both of you in here for everyone to see how petty you both are,” he said, as he stepped towards the door of the cell. He was tall, perhaps six-foot-three, and had short, jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes that seemed to gaze deep into one's soul. “Please don't…” “This will never repeat itself…” On and on they pleaded like they hadn't been the ones threatening me a few moments ago. They seemed like they would break out in tears at any moment from then. “Get your sorry asses out of there,” he ordered, still with a frown on his face. They hurriedly undid the lock and locked it again before scurrying out of sight. For a moment, my eyes locked with those of the man who rescued me. I had never seen a man that handsome. I had thought Gray to be the best-looking man alive until I noticed that beautiful creature that had just saved me from those scoundrels. I had thought he would say something to me, at least to know if I was okay. But then he said nothing as he turned off the lights and walked away. *** “Get up!” a loud, deep voice roused me from my sleep, as I felt the sun's rays directly on my face. Before I could move, I was grabbed by both my arms up to my feet. My shoulders were hurting from the continuous dragging, but not as much as the piercings under my feet, and my ankles, which were hurt from the fall. “Move it…” a tall, muscular man said to me as the other two led the way. What a way to be escorted to my death, I thought to myself, as I nearly screamed with each step I took. Some thorns were probably still stuck in my flesh, but I kept walking, as I would rather not find out what would be done to me if I dared defy their orders. I followed the men through what looked like a stairway that led upwards. The sounds of the cheering of an incited crowd outside vibrated in the stairs as I painfully walked up the stairs. It had me wondering just how many people had gathered to witness my demise. In a way, it made me feel famous— frightfully famous. Too bad that my fame won't last more than one day. Soon enough, I came to what looked like a trap door which opened to the outside. The men immediately obeyed the man who was speaking to the crowd. I realized that we were standing on what looked like a stage. “Take her to Alpha Ryder,” the huge man said to the other two, pointing at the man speaking to the crowd. To my utter disbelief, the man speaking to the crowd looked exactly like the man who had saved me from those two horny bastards. I couldn't believe my eyes, as I stared at him. It felt like he was the only one I could see at that moment. He suddenly turned to me, with an angry look on his face. Something clicked inside me when we made eye contact. It felt much like when I had met Gray for the first time. Before I could blink, his angry look changed into one of disbelief. He began heading in my direction, with a silver dagger in his hand. I guessed that had to be it, as I shut my eyes and hoped that my death would be quick and painless. His hurried footsteps echoed in the halls of my troubled mind. All of a sudden, I felt two hands come on both my shoulders, as the crowd went silent. Instead of feeling a dagger piercing my heart, I heard a whisper in my ears. “Mate…” Before I could open my eyes to see who was playing those games with me, Alpha Ryder's lips came on mine. I was sure I could hear a pin drop.
