Nova’s pulse pounded as the Freedom accelerated towards the two corvettes. For the first time she took notice of their names, the Stalwart and the Arm of the Emperor. The Tainted had kept the original names, but then they had been trying to hide what they were.
Her first instinct on seeing them was to turn, to run, but she quickly fought it down. The corvettes were faster than her frigate and she didn’t want to give them shots at the Freedom’s relatively weak rear.
The two corvettes quickly reacted to her actions, moving in eerie synchronisation so both could hit the Freedom on the same side. Nova ordered the Freedom turned, aiming to split the two, but they reacted swiftly again so each would hit the same side.
