As soon as the Wanderer entered jump space Jess set to work ensuring those he’d rescued were safe and receiving the care they needed. In all there were four-hundred and fifty seven of them, with a couple of dozen needing fairly serious medical attention.
There had been another fourteen but they’d died on the way back to the ship or soon after. The five most badly injured survivors were likely to die too unless they received the type of medical attention only the Wanderer could provide, but it was only available in the living area and there was no way to transfer people there from the main part of the ship whilst in jump space.
