Five minutes ago, Skye made up an excuse that she had to be somewhere. Lying was the only way Skye could think of. She wondered whether Stiles really believed her. Skye could still hear Stiles' voice playing in her head. She wondered whether she was in a position to judge him, to doubt him.
Keeping her head low, she walked on the pavement. One woman even yelled at her when Skye bumped into her. The bag of groceries slipped from the woman's hand. Skye was too occupied to stop and answer the woman back. Skye didn't know why she was rushing to be nowhere. Her mind then went to what Stiles said about the locket. She didn't say anything to Stiles before because she wanted to make sure first the locket had a relation with Stiles.
Seven days ago...
Skye made sure her phone and camera were charged. She pre- planned a long day away. She made a list of places she was going to visit in her phone. The number one place on her list was an old stone fort. Skye rented a car for three days. She wanted to see as many places as she could.
She left early in the morning. The places weren't that far, but she didn't want to miss the chance of watching the sunrise. The orange color of the sun blending with the lighter shade of blue like a blanket. She reached the fort at about 5.30 am.
No rush, no noise and not a sight of a single being. Skye inhaled the colder and fresh breeze. There was a small garden by the entrance to the fort. A smile appeared on her face as she watched a black butterfly with white spots on its wings, flying over the daisies.
Skye tip toed towards the butterfly. She unzipped her camera bag and took out the camera. Changing the camera settings to manual, Skye wrapped her fingers around the camera. Skye realized she forgot to mute the sound of the camera when a loud clicking noise came as she clicked a picture. The butterfly then flew away. With a disappointed look on her face, she turned away and saw a little girl of about ten years. She was hiding behind one of the trees. The little girl was wearing a black dress. The dress had the same kind of spots as they were on the butterfly.
Skye waved at the girl, hoping to get an answer from her. She lifted her camera to focus it on the girl and took a quick picture of her. Skye lowered the camera to check the picture she just took. The image was blurred and poorly exposed. Skye lifted her gaze to see the girl, but she was nowhere in sight.
'Somebody likes to play hide and seek.' she muttered.
Skye went back to her car to get some water. She tossed the camera bag on the back seat. She tried closing the back door, only it didn't close right. The strap of the bag was stuck on the lower side of the door.
Skye opened the door again to remove the strap. That is when she saw a locket lying on the foot mat.
'Where did that come from?' she thought.
