She looked so small sitting in front of me, wrapped calmly in the silence of my confession.
The firelight as well as the moon light kissed her cheeks, highlighting the trails of tears she’d just cried into my shirt. And even now, when she should’ve been overwhelmed, all I saw in her eyes was trust.
She trusted me. And it was time I earned it.
I leaned in closer beside her, close but careful, making sure I was not touching her, even though every cell in my body screamed inside of me to hold her again. My hands curled into fists against my thighs. I needed to tell her the whole truth.
