A sharp gasp escaped my lips as my eyes fluttered open suddenly, my vision was bright, almost blinding. It took some seconds before I could finally make sense of what I was seeing. Where am I? I thought, sitting up on the plush bed and staring at my surroundings. I was in a big room but for some reason, it felt oddly familiar. The huge master-size bed, I sat on, was just like the one I had in my room in my father's mansion. Am I in heaven? Or rather, is heaven home? While I was still contemplating, a knock sounded on the door, jolting me, and before I could give permission to whoever was at the door to come in, the door opened on its own, and Rachelle walked in, a small smile playing on her lips. My eyes widened in shock, "Rachelle?" My voice came out in surprise. "Ah! Good morning, young mistress, you are already awake?" "Ho-How are you a-aliv..." I tried to form words stuck in the back of my throat, but my voice faded, tears immediately pooling in my eyes. I must truly be in heaven for me to have seen Rachelle, my servant. She had died trying to save me by taking a bullet in my stead when we got attacked unaware at home. I got down from the bed and went to hug her, and she froze in my embrace, "Is everything okay, young mistress?" I could hear the confusion laced with worry in her tone. I pulled back slightly while grabbing her arms, "Yes, I-I... I'm—" I sniffed. A big smile broke on my face as I stared at her, "I'm glad you're okay," l gave her a small pinch on her cute cheeks and she blushed. "So are you excited about your twenty-first birthday?" she asked timidly, avoiding my gaze, and I took a few steps away from her. "Twenty-first birthday?" I raised my brow at her, quite perplexed. She reverted her gaze to me astonishingly, "It's today! You were all over the moon about it yesterday," she beamed. What the hell was she saying? Yesterday? Twenty-first birthday? I was just twenty-seven, two months ago... then it clicked! "What year is it?" I questioned. "Uhm, twenty nineteen," she answered. "What?" My brows creased at her while she gave me a worried look. It was starting to seem I was not okay to her, and truly I wasn't! Yesterday happened to be the worst day of my life. I was beaten and raped to death, and she's here telling me some funny things that I was swooning over turning twenty-one today and the year, unless this has to be some sort of time travel I've watched in movies. Wait! What? My eyes widened at the thought and realization of it. No, it can't be! I rushed to the drawer close to the bed and grabbed the phone I saw. "Is this mine?" I asked Rachelle. "Yes?" Without sparing her a glance, I typed my fiancée, Dominic's birthday as my password, but it didn't go through. I typed it again, still the same. My password couldn't unlock the phone and there was no picture of Dominic and I on the lock screen, it was just the Apple theme wallpaper. I checked the model of the phone and realized this wasn't the latest iPhone 16 I was using, this was iPhone 11! Oh My God! That explains it... I've been reborn! I collapsed on the bed, my head starting to spin, I had gone back in time, six years back in time. "Are you alright, Miss Gina? You look pale," Rachelle spoke worriedly. I'm not alright! What the hell is going on? Why did I go back in time? Why was I reborn? I looked at Rachelle, giving her a small smile while I fought battles within myself, "Please, get me a glass of cold water," I said to her, and she nodded, turning on her heels as she hurried out of the room. While I was still deep in my thoughts, the door opened, and I looked up to see if it was Rachelle, but instead, my gaze met with the woman I'd hated so much but did nothing about it. It was Sophia, my stepmother, she had used her seductive skills to wrap my father around the palm of her hands, which made her do anything she liked. I don't blame her, Sophia used to be the hottest stripper ever known and men would always fall to their knees to have her. I put on a fake smile matching the fake one she had on her face too, "Happy birthday, princess," she cooed, and I suddenly got triggered by the word, 'princess' but still, I maintained my cool. "Thank you," I replied, hoping she didn't get the hint of agitation running through my voice. "I got you this beautiful gown for your birthday party," she smiled mischievously, the red lipstick on her lips making her pop like a ruby cherry. "It's limited edition," she added as she whispered, handing me a black dress bag, which I collected from her and unzipped. It was the exact gown she had given me on my twenty-first birthday in my previous life and made me make a fool of myself in front of everyone, but this time around its going to be her turn. "This is so pretty, I love it!" I gasped, putting on a pretentious act of getting swooned by the gown. I decided to touch the gown on purpose, and she stopped me before I could. "Ah ahaha, not yet Gina, you're only allowed to touch it when you're about to wear it," she warned, the exact words she had said to me the previous time. "What if it doesn't fit?" I c****d a brow at her, and she waved her perfectly manicured hands at me dismissively. "Oh, come on, Gina, you're a size ten... why wouldn't I know the perfect size of my stepdaughter? Wouldn't that make me a bad stepmom?" she pouted her lips, and I momentarily rolled my eyes at her. This she-devil! "Hmm, if you say so," I snickered. "What's with that dull look, Gina? Brighten up... it's your day," she moved closer to me and pulled me into a hug against my will. "I can't wait to see you tonight," she murmured in my ears, and I clenched my fist by my side. I was really trying to maintain my composure and not burst out in annoyance. I wanted her nowhere close to me, talk less of feeling her body against mine. She's nothing but a treacherous b***h! Rachelle took the moment to walk in and Sophia drew away from me. "Make sure you kill the looks tonight, your Papa and I would be waiting to see you." She smiled at me before she turned around and strode out of the room, her six-inch pencil heels clicking on the marble floor. Papa? Relief rushed through me realizing he was okay too, but now I need to act fast, so the same mistakes won't repeat themselves. "Here is the water you asked for, Miss Gina," Rachelle announced, carrying a glass of water on a ceramic tray. "Thank you," I appreciated, grabbing the glass of water and gobbling the cold water down my throat in a go. I set the glass cup on the drawer and turned to Rachelle, "I need you to do a task for me," I told her, taking the tray in her hands and dropping it on the bed. "At your service, Miss Gina," she responded, staring at me curiously. "Go into my closet and get some gloves for us and come back here," I said to her, and she nodded, disappearing into the closet room. Knowing Sophia and her extravagant lifestyle, she would be out for shopping. So, this is my chance to act fast. Rachelle came back with a pair of two black gloves. "Come with me," I grabbed her wrist while taking the clothes bag with me as I dragged Rachelle out of the room. After successfully sneaking my way into Sophia's room, I asked Rachelle to bring out the gown Sophia had bought for me and instructed her to wear her gloves. Rachelle gave a puzzled look but did what I told her to regardless, putting on my own gloves too, I walked into Sophia's closet. She had so many shoes, bags, jewelry, and clothes. Everything was in the latest collection and limited edition. My gaze fell on a red shining gown that stood out and the exact gown she had worn on my twenty-first birthday as I recollected. "Bring the gown here, Rachelle," I demanded, and Rachelle got close to me and I collected the gown from her. I rubbed the Sapphire blue gown against Sophia's red gown. My twenty-first birthday, was probably where everything went wrong in my past life. And I'd be a fool to repeat the same fate again. When I was done, I turned to Rachelle who had a perplexed look on her face and I had no intention of explaining anything to her. "Fold this dress back into the bag and take it to my room also you should wash yourself when you are done," I said to her and she nodded. I stared at myself in the large standing mirror in my closet room. I was now that young girl I used to be only that I wasn't naive as everyone would think I would be, my mind was sharper and full of nothing but revenge. I used to think my previous life was full of roses, that it was perfect, but that path and self-assurance had led to my destruction and that of my family. I stared at the beautiful Sapphire dinner dress hugging my slender curves, I had ordered the exact gown Sophia had gotten for me so as not to k****e her suspicion. I'm going to dish out whatever she throws at me in times two and act clueless about it. My make-up was neutral and at the same time bold, it was good enough to show the fierceness in my heart. I wasn't going to be the Mafia heiress who was trampled on. Everyone who had a hand in the downfall of my family in my past life was going to pay! None would be spared, I'll see to it. My long ginger hair was neatly styled and packed up, complimenting my smooth ivory skin tone. Bile formed in my throat, remembering how battered my skin was yesterday. I gave a long stare at the young version of myself ... I was beautiful way beautiful before I switched to having surgery, thanks to the manipulation of my fiancée. I was such a fool in my past life, even as the feared mafia heiress, I was still easily controlled by others close to me. I'd always try to live up to the expectations of everyone. "Young mistress, it's time, the guests are waiting," Rachelle informed behind me. I heaved in a deep breath and turned to look at her, plastering a lovely smile on my face, "You look pretty, Rachelle," I complimented her. "Thank you, Miss Gina." She blushed slightly. Her black subtle hair cascaded behind her back and her pretty pink gown immaculate her beauty more than the usual black and white uniform she always wears. "Shall we?" I uttered, moving forward, and she nodded as I led the way out. I held my breath as I descended the staircase as gracefully as I could. The hall was filled with a lot of guests, all dressed in their finest outfits. They smiled and laughed at one another in their conversation, a facade every one of them used to hide the deception and evil thoughts running through their mind. My eyes traveled to the bottom of the stairs and I saw my father, the Boss of the PHOENIX, standing tall and charming, his smile radiating like a shooting star. Tears evaded my eyes seeing Papa alive, and it made my composure falter a bit, but I held myself immediately. I couldn't let the emotions I was feeling to override me. "That's my lovely birthday girl!" Papa boomed, his voice full of pride as he stared at me. Everywhere grew silent as he drew attention and all eyes scouted to me. I held my head up, struggling to keep the tears in my eyes from falling. "I love you," he mouthed to me, and I couldn't help but break a smile. I smiled at him, "Doesn't she look magnificent?" He questioned loudly, and there was an uproar of applause. I felt my cheeks reddened. Papa's love for me was where he was hit hard the most in my past life. The enemy saw that as his weakness and took advantage of it. "Thank you, Papa," I smiled, fluttering my lashes at him, and kissed him on the cheeks. "I love you too," I whispered in his ears, and he chuckled. I withdrew away from him and Sophia bumped in from nowhere uninvited. "Haha, father-to-daughter moment, I love it," she giggled, and I rolled my eyes at her. No one asked. Seeing her wear the red gown I predicted she would wear gave me a sense of joy. I can't wait for the drama that would unleash tonight. "You look beautiful, Gina. The dress was specially made for you," she gave a sweet smile. "Thank you, Sophia. You always know the best for me," I feigned a smile. I excused myself to get a wine before starting to greet the guest when I heard a loud agonizing cry. Oh, the drama started already? I turned around to see Sophia scratching her body crazily.
