Chapter 6 Rasmus

1443 Words
"Will I be your caretaker here?" Zerra innocently asked when they were already at the door. So, Erdy stopped in his tracks and turned to her with an intense gaze. She immediately lowered her head as she became instantly intimidated by his appearance. "Look at me!" he demanded. She gulped and followed his command. Now that she's looking into his eyes, there is this uneasy feeling again. What frustrates her more is that her wolf seems to be enjoying this. "I already told you that you should look at me when I talk to you. I really hate repeating myself!" he snapped at her. She looked at him like an obedient puppy. What she doesn't know is that the innocent looks in her eyes are making Erdy's mind a bit messy, too. It's like there's a little voice inside him that is begging him to take care of her or protect her. Far from what he was planning to do to her. "I already have enough servants for that reason. Your duty will be different, but it will be the most important," he said. This only confused her more because she never looked at herself as someone special to be given a very important assignment. She became excited and very nervous at the same time. Whatever her task will be, she will do it the best way she can because she wants to gain favor from the alpha. "You look thrilled. Are you that excited? Well, let's get inside so you will know what your job will be," he glowered. She felt a sense of sarcasm in his tone, but she did not speak again and just followed him inside. She mouthed "wow" the moment they entered. The entrance has a very wide lounging area with a high ceiling. The enormous chandelier is a state-of-the-art with its gold-plated body and detailed carved designs. The interior is a combination of gray and milky white color with gold glittering curtains. Aside from the paintings of beautiful scenery on the wall, there are also heads of animals with thorns being displayed. It's weird because it creeps her out to look at them. An old man suddenly appeared in front of them. Behind him are Eva and three other maids in blue and white uniforms. Zerra secretly waved at Eva, and she smiled and nodded in return. "From now on, Zerra will be staying here. She will be the one to look after Rasmus beginning today," Erdy announced. Everyone in front of him gasped in shock at what he said. The looks on their faces sent a shudder at Zerra, and now she's beginning to be more curious about her real task. Why do they look scared at the announcement? Who is Rasmus? Is he someone to be afraid of, that's why they look adamant about just merely hearing the name? These are the questions that bombard Zerra's head, but she can't bring herself to ask. "With all due respect, alpha, are you sure about her being the one to look after Rasmus? It would be very dangerous for her besides–" "Are you questioning my decision, Cendo?" Erdy cut the old man coldly. Poor man, Zerra thought, because Cendo looked really frightened with the alpha's retaliation. "N-no, alpha. I was just saying that Rasmus is not an ordinary being to be handled by a little lady like her. It would only endanger her life," he replied, looking so worried and tensed. Whoever that Rasmus is, only made Zerra sure of one thing, the alpha wanted to kill her, but he can't do it himself, so he's asking someone to do it for him. The thought of it angered her to the core. If he wants me dead, then be a real man and do it himself. "E-excuse me, can somebody tell me who Rasmus is and why all of you look so scared of him?" A mixture of anger and deep curiosity brought her to ask. And the alpha turned to her and shot her a dagger look. But she didn't back down this time. If he wanted to kill her, then what could she do about it? In her mind, she doesn't have any more reason to live, but that doesn't mean she wants to die. If she had to die, then she should have at least put up a fight for her life. Erdy raised his brow before speaking. "Did I give you permission to speak?" he roared at her. It pissed him a little that she's no longer looking as afraid as she did earlier. "It's obvious, from the scared and worried looks on their faces, that you are giving me a job that is somewhat impossible for me to handle unless I want to die. So, I think, if I am going to die today, I should at least know everything about it," she answered while staring at him. She didn't hide her disappointment and anger over the matter. And for some reason, Erdy was left speechless by her sudden outburst. He never thought that this little girl would have this confidence to even talk back to him. When actually, he was just showing off some power to scare her more. But instead of getting scarier, she's angry and ready to fight him? "If you are so eager, let's go and meet your new master. Let's see if that confidence of yours will be the same. I hate to admit it, but I think I like that bravery of yours. You will need that for your new job here," he mockingly said, and walked past the servants who were now sighing sadly and nervously for Zerra. They went to the left corner of the lounging area and walked a narrow corridor with only neon lights guiding the way. Large portraits of members of the royal families from earlier generations are hung in the long and narrow hallways. Then, they turned left and stopped in front of a giant steel door. On both sides of it are two golden dragon statues whose eyes and open mouth are glowing with a raging fire. Erdy pressed the head of the dragon on the right, and the door opened. "Woah," Zerra uttered in amazement, and the bewildered expression on her face made Erdy look at her from head to toe. What's the problem with this man? She thought to herself and frowned when he turned his back from her again. The room was relatively dark. It's like in a horror movie when the protagonist is entering an abandoned building and at any moment, a scary creature will come out to devour her. Although she knew that the portrayal in movies was quite exaggerated, she can't deny that she was beginning to feel afraid of the place. Then, they took the stairs, going down to a darker but not colder basement. At the end of the stairs, he again pressed something, and the torch lined up on the wall lighted, and the whole room became more visible. This basement is so huge. What could possibly be in here that had to be this big? You can literally put three domes inside of it and it will still have space to spare. "What is this place?" she asked, and her voice echoed a little. Then she heard a strange sound and automatically hid behind the alpha's back. "I thought you were brave? It's just a sound and you're chickening like that?" he spouted sarcastically. She glared at his back and even took a step backward. "I am not scared. I was just startled a bit," she said, defending herself. But deep inside, she's really beginning to feel afraid. "Rasmus! Come out! Your new servant is here," he called out to Rasmus. Zerra's heart began to beat faster again while her hands were so cold like ice. Her legs were beginning to tremble too, as a heavy footstep began to shake the place a little. "W-what is that?" she asked nervously and clasped her hands together in front of her chest. "You'll see. Here he comes. I considered Rasmus as my brother because he had been with me since the day I was born. Only my parents, Henry and the people here knew about him," he said proudly. Zerra's mouth was left ajar when the one he was calling Rasmus, stepped on to the light and gazed directly at her with a very fierce and dominating aura. Her hands instantly flew to her mouth and her breathing hitched as the full view of Rasmus appeared in front of them. "Rasmus? Rasmus is a… d-dragon?" she uttered in disbelief.
