The Spy's Statement

799 Words
They ran down the hallway, downstairs, past the occupied ninjas and out the door.  "Do as I say, and do it immediately, or you'll lose your life." Ninja 9999 said as hid behind a bush.  She didn't have to ask what they were waiting for; the answer was already in her mind. They hid there, so silent, that she could hear her companion's breath and distinguish it from the sound of the soft breeze as it hit their face. Under different circumstances, she would have drunk in the early morning scene- the tender glow of the sunrise, glimpsing through the minute gaps of the trees, casting a cool shadow on the ground underneath. But every nerve and muscle of hers was worked up due to tension, ready to spring up and move on her associate's flag. Suddenly, there was a rustle of leaves in the neighbouring bush. They sat up. "On my signal run away from the bush as far as possible," he muttered. It was clear he anticipated some peril soon. Then, on the count of five, he yelled, "RUN!" Without hesitation, she sprung up and ran 20 strides away from the bush with Ninja 9999, who ran alongside parallel to her. Suddenly, a huge blast and explosion took place behind them. The bushes, trees, everything, was on fire. From the flames, emerged Duradel. His skin was charred and some of his fabric was on fire. Other places were covered in soot. There was something grotesque in that face, like inexplicable satisfaction. He coughed a few times, brushed off the soot, then turned to face them.  Ninja 9999 charged at him. Although the man was small, he wasn't an amateur. He was pretty strong, for Sara could notice Ninja 9999 straining slightly under Duradel's strength. Another thing she noticed- Duradel was a skilled swordsman. Also, being small had its advantages. He could manoeuvre and move faster than the Lord. Sara thought he was quite an equal to Ninja 9999, but it was hardly a minute when the ninja had him cornered. But before he could say or ask anything, Duradel spoke. "If you think you have trapped me, then you couldn't have been more wrong." he sneered. "It's we who have trapped you." "We?" Ninja 9999 asked, slightly confused, but then, it morphed into anger. "That's it," he said, as he got up. "You are done." "I don't care if I die," Duradel said with a shrug. "You all are gonna die anyway." "Step aside 3006." Ninja 9999 announced, and Sara obliged, slightly unsettled. Then, the most incredible thing happened. A blue spark, then it turned yellow, then orange, then a magical flame gushed out of his hands like water from a hose.  Duradel still hadn't moved from his place. He just sat there calmly. "A small sacrifice." was all he said before the magic engulfed him and he vaporised. Sara stood there, stunned. "What was that?"  "Magic arts," said Ninja 9999 as a small gleam danced in his eyes, "you'll learn that too." "Th- that... w- w- was.... oh my god...." she scrambled for words. She was utterly speechless and astonished.  "Yes, I know," he said softly, then turned to the burning trees. "But first of all, we'll have to do something about this." "A fire extinguisher would be good," said Sara. Again, a mischievous gleam was detected in his eyes, "Is it?" he asked, "Or perhaps, this would be better." Then, he inhaled, deep and slow, and slowly raised his hands. Enormous waves came from two sides emerged above them. Ninja 9999 directed both his hands to the front, towards the burning site. The waves followed his hands and the fire was out in a few seconds. Then he waved his hands to send the water back to where it came from. Sara was dumbfounded. She never knew magic existed, but it was beautiful! It was beyond anything she had imagined. It was subtle but incredibly powerful and effective. Ninja 9999 was writhing with inward merriment at her reaction.  But suddenly, a question clicked in her mind. "Why didn't you use magic on Lord Dark-Hunter?" A cloud passed over Ninja 9999's face. "Ah yes, you really do analyse well," he said, seemingly choosing his words carefully. Sara couldn't figure out what was so embarrassing or uncomfortable in that. "He is the Napolean of magic arts," he said at last. "It is his area of expertise, in other words. His strongest point of power. The main reason everyone fears him." "I see," said Sara, "so magic has got its fraudulent side too, huh?" "When there is light, there is always dark." said Ninja 9999, "a day is never complete without night. But what worries me now, is the spy's statement. We'll have to act, and fast."
