Chapter 3: The Perfect Lie.

1075 Words
The Hayes Mansion buzzed with excitement. The engagement was just three days away, and preparations were in full swing. Designers, florists, and planners filled every hallway, turning the already regal mansion into something out of a fairytale. Everywhere you turned, there were pastel roses, shimmering drapes, and soft laughter. It felt like a dream. But not everyone was asleep. --- 🌸 The Picture-Perfect Couple In the garden, Emma sat on a marble bench, sunlight dancing on her cheeks, as Aaron Walker knelt before her — holding a small bouquet of white lilies. “For you,” he said, smiling. Emma blinked in surprise. “You brought flowers again?” Aaron laughed gently. “Is that a complaint?” “No,” she said shyly. “It’s just… you always know how to make me feel special.” He took her hand. “You are special. And I can’t wait to call you mine.” Emma looked down, cheeks flushing. “I still can’t believe it’s all real.” From the balcony above, Laura and Helena watched the scene. Helena smiled warmly. “They look truly happy.” Laura nodded, her eyes misty. “I’ve never seen Emma this soft. He brings out something in her.” Helena leaned closer. “I just hope it stays this way forever.” --- 😏 Meanwhile: Ethan Watches from a Distance Inside the house, Ethan stood by the window, watching Aaron and Emma from a distance. His jaw tightened. “Smooth little liar,” he muttered. Liam walked up behind him, sipping orange juice. “You’re going to burn a hole through the glass.” “He’s faking it,” Ethan said flatly. Liam raised a brow. “You sure? He’s ticking all the right boxes. Polite, romantic, charming…” Ethan turned sharply. “That’s the point. No one’s that perfect.” Liam smirked. “Maybe you just don’t like him because he’s marrying Emma.” Ethan gave him a hard stare. Liam held up his hands. “Okay, okay! Just saying.” --- 💐 Engagement Planning Chaos Sophie ran into the living room holding fabric samples. “Mom! Which one looks better — ivory or peach?” Laura laughed. “Sweetheart, that’s the twentieth time you’ve asked!” “I know,” Sophie grinned. “But this is Emma’s engagement. It has to be perfect.” Liam snatched the fabric. “You should just wear a garbage bag. You’ll still outshine everyone.” Sophie gasped. “That’s either an insult or the weirdest compliment I’ve ever received.” “It’s my signature style,” Liam winked. She rolled her eyes. “You’re so annoying.” “And you love it.” Ethan passed by. “Can you two flirt somewhere else?” Liam’s smile faded. Sophie’s face turned red. “We’re not flirting!” “Yeah,” Liam added, scratching his head. “Just… fighting with flair.” Ethan raised a brow but didn’t comment. He knew Sophie like a sister, and Liam’s weird flirty energy around her didn’t go unnoticed — even if he pretended not to see it. --- 💔 Emma & Ethan: Another Clash Later that evening, Emma found Ethan in the study room, going through business files. She crossed her arms. “Got a minute?” Ethan glanced up. “Surprised you’re not with your prince charming.” “I was. But now I’m dealing with my dark villain.” “Let me guess. I’m the villain because I don’t believe his fairy tale?” She stepped closer. “Why do you hate him so much? He’s never done anything to you.” Ethan shut the file slowly. “It’s not about me. It’s about you. You’re smart, Emma. But you’re choosing to be blind.” Her eyes narrowed. “You don’t get to decide who’s good for me.” “I don’t. But I won’t clap when you walk into a trap either.” Emma’s face fell. “Why can’t you just let me be happy?” Ethan’s voice softened slightly. “Because I don’t trust people who smile too easily.” Emma turned away, her voice quieter. “For once, just don’t ruin this for me.” She left without looking back. And Ethan sat there in silence — the one man who could see the cracks no one else noticed. --- 📱 Later: Aaron’s Secret Aaron sat in his car that night, looking at Emma’s picture on his phone. Then he switched apps and opened a hidden chat. Mia 💔: “Do you really love her?” Aaron hesitated. Then typed: “Everyone believes I do. That’s what matters for now.” He turned off the phone, sighed deeply, and drove away. --- Sophie stood in the kitchen, stealing frosting off a tray of cupcakes meant for the guests. Just then, Liam walked in and caught her red-handed — literally. “Well, well, caught the cupcake thief in action,” he said, crossing his arms. Sophie licked frosting off her finger without shame. “Don’t act like you’ve never stolen snacks before.” “I don’t steal,” Liam said with mock pride. “I charm the staff into giving me extras.” Sophie rolled her eyes. “You’re so full of yourself.” “I’m full of charm. There’s a difference.” She threw a kitchen towel at him. “Go away. This is a cupcake crime scene.” Liam leaned against the counter, watching her mischievously. “I think I’ll stay. Watching you eat like a gremlin is oddly entertaining.” Sophie gasped. “Excuse me?!” “Don’t stop. I might record this for blackmail later.” “Touch your phone and I’ll tell Ethan you spiked my juice yesterday!” Liam backed away with mock horror. “You wouldn’t.” “Try me,” she grinned, biting into the cupcake victoriously. --- 🌙 Closing Scene – Hayes Balcony Emma stood on her balcony that night, watching the stars. Laura joined her. “You nervous?” she asked softly. “A little,” Emma admitted. “But mostly excited.” “You’ve always been strong. This… this happiness is what you deserve.” Emma nodded, but her heart fluttered in strange ways. Somewhere deep inside, a small voice whispered something she couldn’t quite understand. And far across the city, Ethan stood on his own balcony — wide awake. Watching the same stars. --- 📖 End of Chapter 3
