Chapter Five: Tracy's Pov: For Worthy Cause

989 Words
Igot down from my car after driving back to my workplace as I thought about the stupid condition Mr. Davis had given me. As I marched into the company's building, my mind when back to what he had said and how he had said it. "I will give your company a chance and might even award them the contract if you agreed to go on a date with me," he said. I looked at him in a weird way, as if he had just grown another pair of head. What the hell was he talking about? I thought. I had just embarrassed this man in front of his entire staff in his own territory and here he is asking me to go on a date with him. I, a complete stranger. "And why do you want to go on a date with me? Is this some kind of revenge plan to get back at me for what I did to you downstairs?" I asked. "No, it's not some kind of revenge plan. Like I said no woman has ever spoken to me the way you did today. I found that quite impressive. I found it...hot. So, if you agree to go on a date with me, I will give your company the contract," he said. "Well, sorry to burst your bubble Mr. Davis, but I won't be going on any date with you," I said, turning around to leave the office. "Then consider that your company has lost the contract," he said. I didn't even turn back to reply. I just stormed out of the office and made my way out. Finally, I got to my boss's office and explained everything to him. The reply he gave was not like anything I had expected. "Why would you tell him that you are not going to go on that date with him?" Mr. Smith asked me. I looked intently at his face to see if he was joking but he looked really serious. "A...are you serious, Me. Smith?" I asked him. "Let me ask you one question, Tracy Miller. Are you married?" He asked. I wondered where this was going but I replied, "No. ""Do you have a boyfriend or a fiance? Any man at all in your life?" He asked. "No, I don't," I answered. "Then what is stopping you from going on just one date with a potential client? You do know that this date determines that we get this contract, right? And I'm sure you also remember that your promotion is tied to this same contract, right?" Mr. Smith asked me. "Yes I know all this Mr Smith but I cannot just go on the date with this man. For one, he is very arrogant," I said, standing my ground. "We do not need his arrogance, Tracy. All we need is to get this contract with him. And if going on a date with him is going to get us this contract, then I think you have no other choice but to go on that date," Mr. Smith. I opened my mouth to speak but she stopped me and said, "Before you say another word, I'd let you know that refusing to this would mean losing your job. "I was shocked on hearing this. Not only was my promotion on the line, now my job too. I understand this contract is a huge deal for our company but does it have to be like this? I wondered. "Give me some time to think about it, Mr Smith," I finally said. "Time? We don't have time to waste. If we take too long, he might just go ahead and the contract with our rivals," he answered. "But this is a big deal for me too. I can't just agree to go on a date with a man I don't know. I have to think about it," I said. "I guess you're right. Well then, I give you till tomorrow morning to give me your answer," he said. Fair enough, I thought. "Fine, Mr Smith. I will give you the answer first thing tomorrow morning," I answered. "Good, you can return back to your office," he said. I turned around and walked out of his office, still thinking about the whole thing. With the way that man acted today, I didn't want to think about how he would act if I agreed to the date. He looked and sounded so arrogant. If possible, I wanted nothing to do with him but I'm kind of tied to him until this contract is gotten and finalized. That night after putting Vera to bed, I couldn't go back to sleep. My mind was occupied with so many thoughts on whether or not to accept the date in other for our company to get the contract from Starlite Corporations. I weighed my options and realize that truly, I had no choice but to go on that date with Mr Davis. I couldn't afford to lose my job and I couldn't afford to miss the promotion either. I needed the money for rent and Vera's education. I spent the whole night thinking about what I should do. By morning, I had come up with an answer. I got Vera ready for school and got myself ready for work. After dropping her off at school, I made my way to the office. Immediately I walked into the building, I went straight for Mr Smith's office. "So have you finally decided on what you want?" Mr. Smith said. I took a deep breath before replying. "I'll do it."Mr. Smith looked at me shocked. "What?""I will do it. I will go on that date with Mr. Davis so that he can sign the contract with our company," I said.A smile appeared on his face. "Thank you so much, Miss Miller. You don't know how important this is for us," he said "Trust me, I do," I replied.
