CHAPTER FOUR

"Mike?" Elizabeth called as she stood from the bed. She checked the bathroom and balcony to see if he was there but he was nowhere to be found. "Aargh!" She groaned as she sat on the bed. Other clients took her home after a night of pleasure but Mike left without informing her that he was leaving. This got her upset. She checked her bag to see if her money was intact. She counted the money twice to be sure it was complete. "My pay is intact but where is he? Why'd he leave me? He's such a fool!" She blurted. She got dressed and left the room. She returned the room keys to the receptionist and left the hotel. She dialed her taxi driver's number and he picked up the third ring. "Where did you keep your phone last night?" She queried him. "I'm so sorry. I was…" her taxi driver tried to explain himself but she wasn't ready to listen to any of his excuses. "Keep your silly excuses to yourself! Come, pick me up at Cedar Keys Apartment, now!" she instructed and hung up before he could say a word. About thirty minutes later, her taxi driver arrived. She hurriedly hopped in and they zoomed off. When she got home, she quietly shut the door, took off her shoes, and held them in her hand as she tip-toed to her room. She was about to open her room door when she heard: "Where are you coming from?" Her heart skipped as she scoffed and turned. "Good morning, Mum.", Elizabeth greeted with a shrug. "Answer my questions and don't try to change the subject with your silly greetings!", Dorothy, her mother shouted. Elizabeth dropped her shoes and stared at her mum speechless. "I would ask this question one more time. Where are you coming from Miss. Indolent?"_ Dorothy queried. "I'm not lazy, mum!", Elizabeth snapped. "You are. You are as lazy as a sloth!", Dorothy retorted as Elizabeth sighed fighting back the tears in her eyes. "I'm not lazy, mum. I'm trying to work very hard to save up enough money to give Dad proper treatment and take care of myself. I'm tired of depending on you for my personal needs. I'm no longer a child.", Elizabeth explained. Dorothy laughed awkwardly and said: "One who makes money illegally or by hustling is not in any way different from a lazy person." "What do you mean by that?", Elizabeth asked confused by the adage she gave. "Elizabeth, you are a priceless jewel. Your body is to be kept pure, and undefiled till you are married. Prostitution isn't the right way to make a living. You can earn money through other legitimate means.", Dorothy replied with a worried look as Elizabeth stared at her in shock. "How did she know this? Has she been monitoring my movement? Who told her?", She asked herself. "Well, it's good you know what I'm doing. But, the amount of money earned from a nightstand is worth more than that of a salary earner coupled with the pleasure gotten from it..", Elizabeth blurted. "Don't be silly! Sleeping around just to make money can make you rich but at the same time makes you indifferent to a dog! Get your hands busy with a lucrative business and stop messing around!", Dorothy scolded Elizabeth. "And if don't?" Sophia spoke rudely. "Wake up, Sophia! Stop being silly! I repeat, Stop.. being.. silly! If not for anything, think about your integrity. Think about me. Think about us. Think about the family.", Dorothy advised and went to her room. Elizabeth sighed and picked up her shoes. She opened her door and entered her room slamming the door. Elizabeth never stopped flirting. She was at the nightclub every weekend. Dorothy never stopped scolding her. Elizabeth soon got tired of the kind of life she lived but she just couldn't stop. Every guy saw her as a s*x object. She had to go for therapy sessions and personally decided never to visit the nightclub again. Her clients still saw her as a prostitute and desired to have her but she ignored them. To get rid of the shame and begin a new li fe, Elizabeth and her family relocated after she graduated from college.
