ALEXANDER’S POV The house was quiet when I walked in. Too quiet. I dropped my keys in the tray by the door, loosening the knot in my tie as the scent hit me…..something savory, warm, and nostalgic, like a memory from a life I never lived. My brow furrowed as I made my way toward the kitchen. And then I saw her. Nia stood by the stove, towel in her hands, her hair tied back in a loose bun. The table was set, two places. Chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables. A full meal, homemade and waiting. She looked up, startled. “You’re home,” she said softly.
