CALEB’S POV The cheap liquor burned my throat, but I kept drinking anyway, trying to drown out the storm raging inside my head. The call girl beside me was doing her job. Her hands roaming, her lips working but I barely felt a thing. My mind was miles away, back on Nia. Damn her for disappearing on me. Damn her for making me look like a fool to those cops. I kept replaying the day at the station. The officers, acting like I was some kid caught sneaking out past curfew, telling me how serious it was to lie to the police. Like I needed their lecture.
