Rose POV
“Either you pay me the 2.2 million dollars by the end of this month, or…”
He paused.
My eyes widened.
“By the end of this month?” I repeated in disbelief. “I couldn’t even pay that amount if you gave me the whole of next year!”
Andre’s expression remained unchanged.
“Or you work as my personal assistant, and—”
“Of course, I’ll work as your P.A.!” I interrupted immediately.
He looked at me.
“I wasn’t finished.”
“I’ll do whatever it takes to avoid paying that money,” I said confidently.
His jaw tightened slightly.
I had a feeling he was getting tired of me interrupting him, but honestly, I didn’t care.
This was the best option I had.
“Good,” he said, his voice flat. “You’ll need to sign an agreement form.”
He turned to his computer and began typing quickly.
A few moments later, a paper slid out from a printer near his desk.
He picked it up, scanned through it, then placed it in front of me with a pen.
“Sign this. This contract means you won’t owe me anything as long as you agree to work as my personal assistant, and—”
“Yeah, yeah, that’s fine,” I said, already picking up the pen.
Before he could finish explaining, I signed my name.
I pushed the contract back toward him.
He stared at it for a moment before making a copy and handing one to me.
I took it with a smile, trying my best not to look too excited.
To me, this was a miracle.
I had gone from worrying about how I would pay 2.2 million dollars to becoming the personal assistant of Hilton Hotel’s new CEO.
Sometimes I wondered if Andre was too generous.
Who gave someone an opportunity like this just because they accidentally broke their watch?
Maybe he wasn’t as terrifying as I thought.
My thoughts were interrupted when his phone rang.
He answered immediately.
“Ciao, è tempo? Sto arrivando.”
He ended the call and looked back at me.
“That’s all for now. Any further information will be sent to your sss. You’ll start work tomorrow. I have somewhere to be, so you can leave.”
He stood up.
“Thanks,” I said, standing as well.
I walked out of his office feeling lighter than I had in days.
I had spent almost two hours there, but it was completely worth it.
For the first time in a while, I felt lucky.
I couldn’t wait to tell Mia everything.
We agreed to meet at our favorite ice cream shop, and when I arrived, she was already there with a huge smile on her face.
“I can’t wait to hear your news,” she said excitedly. “But first, let’s order.”
She chose butter pecan with extra toppings, while I went with my usual simple vanilla.
Once we settled down and started eating, Mia leaned forward.
“So, what’s the good news?”
I smiled, enjoying the suspense.
“I kind of got promoted.”
Her reaction was completely different from what I expected.
Instead of congratulating me, she burst into laughter.
“You got promoted to what?” she teased. “Chief waitress? Director of serving drinks?”
Her laughter grew louder, earning a few looks from people nearby.
I rolled my eyes.
“You crazy woman. I got promoted by the new CEO of Hilton Hotel as his personal assistant.”
Her laughter stopped.
She stared at me.
“Are you pranking me?”
I frowned.
“What?”
“I know you haven’t forgiven me for what I did on April Fool’s Day.”
I sighed.
Two months ago, Mia had told me she bought me a new phone as an apology gift.
When I opened the box, I found a notebook inside.
I still hadn’t forgiven her for that.
“I still haven’t forgiven you,” I said. “But remember the man I told you about? The one whose expensive wristwatch I broke at the hotel?”
Mia nodded slowly.
“He’s the new CEO of Hilton Hotel.”
Her face changed.
“What?”
“I’m serious.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I know. I didn’t believe it either.”
She looked at me suspiciously.
“Can I see the contract?”
“Sure.”
I reached into my pocket and handed it to her.
The moment she opened it, her eyes widened.
I smiled.
“I know, right? I’m lucky.”
“What?”
Her voice was so loud that people around us turned to look.
“Rose, why would you agree to this?”
I frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
She lifted the contract.
“It’s written right here!”
Her finger moved across the page.
“To avoid paying the 2.2 million dollars, you agreed to work as his personal assistant without a salary…”
My smile slowly disappeared.
“Continue.”
“You have to accompany him on all business trips…”
My heart started beating faster.
“And worst of all…”
She looked at me.
“You have to live with him for an entire year.”
The world seemed to stop.
I grabbed the contract from her hand and quickly scanned the page.
My eyes moved over the words again and again.
No.
No, no, no.
This wasn’t what I agreed to.
“This is not what I signed up for!” I exclaimed.
