Chapter 2: Saviour Complex

1085 Words
"What can I get for you, miss?" The cashier asked casually, her eyes stuck on the keyboard in front of her. "I would like these packs of lollipops- cherry to be precise" the girl replied and poured about a dozen of lollipops packs on the counter. Hearing that, the cashier snapped her head to get a look at the person ordering for so many packs of lollipops. She scrutinized the woman in front of her. Without looking at her face, she stared at her clothes. The woman seemed to either be a lawyer or business woman, due to the bag she held that seemed to contain files. Her clothes seemed to be those inconspicuous high-end wears that cost more than a grand. And the clothes seemed like a perfect fit for her size, even with her waist. She seemed to be a medium sized woman with an extremely tiny waist, so it couldn't be possible that she had given birth. Therefore, the lollipops were probably for her or for a party. She was really curious to see the face of the person that ordered it. Looking at the woman's face, the cashier's eyes almost popped out of their sockets, in astonishment. The woman's face was a vision of beauty through and through, with delicate features and lidded eyes that seem to hold a secret. Her eyes were almond-shaped, with a subtle tilt at the corners, giving her an exotic allure. Her skin was smooth and unblemished, with a subtle sheen that hints at a radiant glow. The way she pouted her alluring red lips made her look like she could throw a fuss and nobody would say no to her! And her figure which was equally stunning, with curves that are both subtle and pronounced, complimented her looks and made her look like an actress or model. Her slender waist, formal high-end wear and toned physique were accentuated by her confident posture, drawing the eye of everyone who caught a glimpse of her. Overall, she exuded a sense of poise and sophistication, as if she was a model or a celebrity. The cashier couldn't help but wonder why a woman so luxurious like her would purchase sweets from a local vendor. Wait! Was she planning on ruining her weight with so much junk!? She prayed that wasn't the case. Another thought came to her mind, maybe she was buying it for a friend or party. Seeing that as the only rational reason, the cashier exhaled and gave the woman in front of her the brightest smile she could muster. The woman, unaware of what was going on in the cashier's head, just tapped her feet in impatience and threw a lazy smile back at the cashier. The cashier immediately cashed in the things she bought and packaged them neatly for her, she didn't know why, maybe it was the woman's aura or her face but she had this intense urge to please the woman. "Thank you" the woman winked at her and walked away with the things she had bought. Watching her back, the cashier exhaled and squealed in excitement. She had never met anyone as beautiful as this woman, she felt so lucky to have the opportunity to meet the woman. The woman, seemingly in the mood to walk home, called her driver and told him to go home. When she was done, she slung the nylon bag over her shoulder and walked down the street, towards her house. Enjoying the peace that she felt, just by walking home herself, she decided to take the long and lonely path to make the journey longer. Walking down the road, she hummed a song and danced as she walked home. She got to a curb and heard the sound of bottle breaking. She immediately narrowed her eyes and put up a defensive stance. After a while, she realized that the sound had no connection to her, but curiosity hit the better of her and she walked to the source of that noise. On getting there, she saw a bruised and battered man surrounded by 6 men, and another man next to the battered man, with blood dripping from his head and his eyes oozing of murderous intent. She clicked her tongue at the scene in front of her, and decided to walk away, these people had no connection to her, so she also didn't need to interfere in the fight and who knows- maybe the injured man deserved it too. She adjusted the nylon bag and walked away, but from the corner of her eye, she saw one of the six other men sneak behind the injured man and raise the knife in the air to stab the injured man from the back, after gripping the hands of the man, in a position where he couldn't escape. Her eyes twitched at the scene, she was a person of principles, and although she was also involved in deaths, she would never attack people when they were defenseless. It was a code that all assassins lived by, and judging by the way the men moved, she was sure they were assassins, but they didn't live up to the code and allowed their personal emotions to get in between their work. They were a failure to all assassins in the world!! She made up her mind that if she ever saw them in any of the assassins gatherings, she would have a thorough word with them about morals and ethics of assassins. She turned to the direction of when she came from and walked away, when she heard something. "Please, help me" "Don't leave me" "Please.." She heard the injured man whisper it, she scanned the surroundings to identify who he was talking to, she realized that she was the only one there, so she was the one he was referring to. The woman rolled her eyes in annoyance. She couldn't say no when someone was treated unjustly and begged her. She had a saviour complex!! And this man just hit her where it hurts. "This wasn't supposed to happen" she screamed in exasperation, drawing the attention of the mercenaries. The assassins heads snapped towards her, with looks of shock and pity written in them. They looked at each other, seemingly talking to each other. Two walked towards her with murderous intent clearly oozing from them. She understood what was happening, they didn't want to leave any witnesses or evidence behind. They simply wanted to get rid of her!
