The Storm Breaks

1000 Words
The house was peaceful. The smell of coffee lingered, and the soft hum of an old radio filled the background. Élise sat on the couch, smiling faintly. — “This house feels… safe,” she said softly. “Like it remembers love.” Emir smiled, sitting beside her. — “It does. My mother’s coffee could heal any wound.” His mother joined them, placing cups on the table. For a moment, time felt gentle — three people, one table, no pretenses. But outside, the world was already spinning. 📺 At a news studio downtown, a young producer shouted: — “We’ve got it! Élise Laurent married in Istanbul!” Photos began flooding the screens — Élise in her white dress, the consulate building behind her, Emir beside her, and the flash of a diamond ring on her finger. Within minutes, every major outlet had picked it up. #EliseLaurentMarried #TurkishDoctorMystery The internet exploded. 📱 An hour later, Élise’s phone wouldn’t stop vibrating. Notifications, messages, calls — her manager, her agent, producers from LA. Nina’s name flashed on the screen over and over again. Élise stared at the phone, then quietly set it on the table without answering. Emir noticed. — “Something wrong?” She smiled faintly. — “Not yet.” But her eyes told a different story — worry, fatigue, the weight of inevitability. Emir’s mother sensed it too. — “What is it, dear?” Élise hesitated, then said softly: — “I think… everyone knows we’re married now.” Emir frowned. — “What do you mean everyone?” She turned the screen toward him. Headlines glared back in bold letters: “Hollywood Star Élise Laurent Marries Turkish Doctor!” “Secret Consulate Wedding in Istanbul!” Emir felt his stomach drop. — “This can’t be real…” — “It is,” Élise whispered. “Secrets don’t survive long in my world.” Then, the doorbell rang. Loud. Persistent. Emir’s mother looked up, startled. Emir went to the door and opened it — only to be met by flashing cameras. Reporters shouted over each other: — “Mr. Demir, how did you meet her?” — “Is this marriage real or a visa arrangement?” Emir slammed the door shut, his pulse racing. His mother rushed to him. — “What’s happening, Emir?” Élise stood, calm but pale. — “It’s starting,” she said quietly. “My world just found yours.” Emir turned to her, his jaw tense. — “We’ll handle it. Together.” She looked at him, tears glimmering in her eyes. — “You don’t know what it means, Emir. They’ll chase us everywhere. They’ll twist everything.” He took her hand gently. — “Then let them chase. We’ll keep walking.” His mother joined them, placing her warm hands over theirs. — “Every storm passes, children,” she said softly. “You two will see the morning after.” Outside, the world shouted, speculated, and demanded answers. Inside, three hearts beat in quiet unison — a doctor, an actress, and a mother who believed in love. The sun was setting over Istanbul. The apartment was quiet again, but that peace was fragile. Élise sat by the window, watching the light fade behind the skyline. Then, her phone buzzed — Nina. She hesitated, then answered. — “Nina, I know what you’re going to say.” — “You think?” Nina snapped. “Elise, this is a disaster! The studio’s losing their minds! You have a press tour in five days! You need to come back immediately!” Élise didn’t respond. Nina’s voice grew sharper. — “And there’s a clause in your contract — remember? If you get married abroad without notice, the PR team can terminate your deal. We’re talking millions, Élise. Millions.” Élise closed her eyes. For a few seconds, she didn’t move. Then, quietly: — “I’ll come back.” When she hung up, Emir was standing at the doorway, watching her. — “Is everything okay?” She turned slowly. — “We have to go.” — “Go? Where?” — “Back to America.” He frowned. — “So soon? What about my papers, my visa, my passport?” Élise smiled faintly. — “Already handled. My assistant took care of everything.” He blinked. — “How? We didn’t even apply yet.” She shrugged lightly. — “There are doors that open for me, Emir. Ones you can’t see.” He fell silent. Something twisted inside him. He was just beginning to understand the scale of her world — and how far away his own felt from it. She picked up her bag. — “Should we book tickets?” he asked. — “No need,” she said simply. “The jet’s ready.” Emir froze. — “The… jet?” She smiled again, calm, practiced. — “Don’t worry. You’re part of this now.” He turned away, trying to make sense of it all. Private jets. Contracts. Cameras. Élise Laurent. How could he have spent all that time with her and never realized who she truly was? She approached him then, her voice soft but steady. — “Emir, listen carefully.” He looked up. — “No one can know the truth,” she said. “This marriage — it’s an agreement. For you, it’s a way back to your dream. For me… it’s a way to save my career.” Her tone softened; for the first time that day, she smiled — a real smile, tired but human. — “We save each other, you and I.” Emir hesitated, then nodded slowly. — “Alright.” She reached for his hand. — “Thank you.” Outside, the sky turned crimson. A car engine started in the distance. Their bags waited by the door. Two strangers, bound by paper, flying toward a storm neither could predict.
