Chapter Three

1087 Words
The phone rang only once before Lucas answered the call. “What is your problem, Lucas? Why did you try to hurt my brother?” Sophia asked, her voice filled with confusion. “Do you think I’ll hurt your brother just because we got divorced?” Lucas asked, his voice tinged with frustration. “I don’t know what to think of you anymore. One moment you're a committed man, the next you're the type of person who hurts others,” Sophia said, her voice growing colder. “You should find out what really happened at your house, and why I slapped Nicholas,” Lucas said. “So, you admit that you hit Nicholas, which shows the kind of man you are. You've been hiding this side of yourself ever since we were together, but today you decided to show it. It’s a good thing we’ve parted ways. I assure you, the next time you do something like this, I’ll make sure you end up behind bars,” Sophia said before hanging up the call. Lucas was disappointed. He never expected anything like this to happen. He had worked so hard, and now it had all fallen apart. Feeling defeated, he decided to go out for a drink to clear his head. When he walked into the bar, he looked miserable. He went to the bartender to order the drink he preferred. “Hello, sir. What can we get you?” the bartender asked. “Just get me something to drink,” Lucas replied, his voice flat. “Alright, sir,” the bartender said, then went off to prepare the drink. A few minutes later, the bartender returned and handed the drink to Lucas. “Your drink, sir. Enjoy it,” the bartender said before leaving Lucas to his drink. Lucas sat there, contemplating his life. It had been three years since he last visited a bar. But tonight, everything felt different. He had never felt so down, and today, after the argument with Sophia, he needed a way to forget. He finished the first bottle of vodka and then ordered another. He finished the second bottle, and as the hours passed, people came and went, but Lucas didn’t leave his seat, lost in the alcohol and his thoughts. Eventually, it was time for the restaurant to close. The bartender, realizing how drunk Lucas was, knew it was time to tell him to leave. But Lucas was too drunk to even stand up. The bartender was confused about what to do. He needed to close the restaurant, but Lucas couldn’t help himself. Just then, a beautiful lady walked into the bar. She had noticed Lucas sitting there for a while, and when she saw the situation, she approached the bartender. “What’s going on with this man?” she asked politely. “He’s been here for a long time, consuming drinks. He must be dealing with something troubling, which is why he came here, but now it’s time for him to go. The problem is, he can’t help himself,” the bartender explained. The lady observed Lucas and noticed how miserable he looked. Maybe he just needed help. “You don’t have to worry. I’ll help him out and make sure he gets home,” she said kindly. “I really appreciate you doing that,” the bartender replied, relieved. He allowed the lady to walk up to Lucas and assist him. “Hey, man, who are you, and how can we reach your family?” the lady asked curiously, expecting a response from Lucas. But there was no reply, so she decided to help him as best as she could. She tried to help him stand, supporting him with her arms, and together they left the restaurant. She planned to put him in a taxi and send him home. But as she continued to ask Lucas where he lived and about his family, he gave no response, only mumbling something she couldn’t understand. Not knowing what else to do, she decided to take him to a hotel and let him sober up. The next day, he would find his way out. The hotel wasn’t far from the restaurant. She took him there, booked a room for him, and helped him to the room. But as she tried to leave, she heard a statement from Lucas. “Please don’t go. Stay with me.” She was surprised to hear such an emotional plea from Lucas. Curious about what was disturbing him, she decided to stay a little longer. But this turned out to be the wrong decision. As she approached him, Lucas grabbed her and took advantage of her. The next morning, Lucas woke up feeling terrible. He was surprised to find himself in a hotel room. He couldn’t remember what happened the night before because he had been so drunk. However, he remembered someone helping him out of the restaurant. He wasn’t sure who she was, but he knew he must have done something to her, which made him feel awful. She was nowhere to be found. He quickly got dressed and rushed down to the receptionist to try to gather some information about the woman who had helped him. “Good morning, miss,” Lucas greeted. “Can I help you?” the receptionist asked. “About last night... I was brought into the hotel by someone. Can you please tell me who she is? Her name, her description, anything that might help me find her?” Lucas asked, his curiosity piqued. “I’m sorry, sir, but I wasn’t on duty last night. We don’t give out customer information just like that. I’m afraid I can’t help you,” the receptionist replied. “I understand that you don’t give out information, but I’m willing to pay for it. Please, just call your colleague and ask if she knows anything about the woman who brought me in last night,” Lucas insisted, offering to compensate her. The receptionist hesitated, then tried to call her colleague. She dialed the number several times, but it wasn’t going through. Eventually, she gave up. “I’m sorry, sir. It seems like you’re going to have to forget about it,” she said, apologetic. Lucas nodded and turned to leave. He grabbed his things and headed back to his own place, unsure of what had happened the previous night. His mind was clouded with guilt and confusion, but one thing was clear—he needed to face the consequences of his actions.
