ROMAN POV
I pace.
Beside Claire's bed.
Her tiny body trembles.
Fever raging.
40.5 degrees, and rising.
I'm helpless.
Fear grips me.
"Claire, baby, please," I whisper.
Tears prick at my eyes.
Gwen's still not here.
I dial her number again.
"Gwen, where are you?" I demand feeling my arms tremble from fear.
"Alpha Roman, I'm so sorry. There's been a landslide. I can't make it," she explains.
Incredulous.
"Can't make it?" I repeat.
My voice rises.
"Gwen, my daughter is dying! Get here now!" I command.
"I'm sorry, Alpha Roman. It's impossible. The roads are blocked," she insists.
Rage boils within me.
I slam my fist against the wall.
"Impossible?" I shout.
My phone cracks.
