CHAPTER XVIN THE VISITORS’ ROOM That afternoon Larry walked the streets with a certain ease at his breast. True his difficulties were still all ahead of him; he did not minimise them; but he was no longer divided against himself. That is what brings a man down. He could face things out now. He owed allegiance but in one direction. He was free to devote himself to the single purpose of getting Phillida out of her cell. He was on his way to see her.
