Ruth slowly closed her eyes, but before their lips could even touch, an abrupt knock on the door interrupted them.
Ruth pushed Raymond away, glided out of his arms like a graceful butterfly, and said with a smirk, "Next time you kiss someone, try keeping the chit-chat to a minimum!"
Raymond took a few seconds to gather himself before getting up to open the door. William offered Raymond a brief greeting, and his gaze towards Ruth was dripped with fake sympathy and concern.
"Oh, my poor Ruth. Justin really went too far..."
Ruth raised her hand to cut him off. "You should know we broke up."
"Ruth, Justin let you down again. He's just too young and reckless. Trust me, you're the one and only in his eyes, and he'll come to realize that someday," William insisted on speaking for Justin.
