Chapter 6

2410 Words
Gavin Jr. After morning training, a shower, and breakfast I’m sitting in my dad’s office. I just told him everything that happened last night. He’s pacing around and not saying anything. My family are very verbal people. One thing you can’t say about us is that you didn’t know. You’ll know how we feel about what’s going on, what we’re feeling in general, or if you just messed up. Him not speaking was making me nervous. As I’m sitting here appraising my father’s demeanor I start thinking about the day we fought. I was so stupid. Not only should I not have done that but my dad wasn’t a little dude. Yeah I’m taller as he’s 5’11” but he outweighs me by at a minimum of 50 pounds. He’s the one who taught me how to fight, and he’s still healthy as an ox. I’m happy we mended our relationship though. I love my dad and he’s an awesome grandfather. He clears his throat and I’m torn away from my little daydream. “Son, I’m happy for you. I am. But the only way this will fly with the elders is if we tell them who your mate is.” He said firmly. I was hoping he wouldn’t say that. It’s 2005 and my mate is a wolf with powers, this isn’t Medieval times. “Pop, I get you. But this isn’t the old days and what if we tell the elders and this information gets passed on to other packs? We’ll be targeted.” “Well, if we don’t say that to the elders and you mate and mark her we’ll still be targets because it will look like we’re being shown favoritism, we have to tread lightly son.” Damn, my dad was a great Alpha. “Ok can you call the meeting? I have to go meet with Scarlett so we can arrange everything.” I ask him. “Of course.” He said and tapped my shoulder. I left, on my way out Dina must have been waiting because there she was. “What now?” I ask. “When are gonna quit playing and do what you’re supposed to for this pack?” She raised her voice to me in the middle of the hallway. It took all the moon goddess gave me to not snatch her up by her throat, “Who the f**k do you think you are? You’re NOT my mate! I told you from the jump I’d never mark you. My sons will see a lot of things from me in this life but what they won’t see is their father being weak. That law is wrong. I will NEVER reject a gift from the goddess on a count of someone I’m not happy with. I love my boys with every inch of my being and that’s it. I don’t want to be with you.” I told her right then and there since she thought in her small mind that she could shout at me in the middle of my floor hallway right then and there was appropriate. “The law is going to be upheld and you will have to reject your mate if and when she comes forth.” She replied in the most nonchalant venomous tone. “I will do everything in my power to make sure you never bear my mark.” I told her finally. I know my eyes turned slightly red because Tune was trying to take control and I was reeling him back in at the same time. I know it because she flinched when she looked at me. “Get out of my way. I’m leaving.” And I walked off. I left in my car and called Scarlett. She was happy to hear from me which made me happy. I pick her up like usual. She got in and I pulled her to me and kissed her, she then sat back. “Hi, how was your day?” She asked me. “Better now. I gotta tell you something. I spoke to my dad and he said the only way to bypass the law is to tell the elders who you are.” I said carefully. I know this was a tough decision for her to make. She paled a little bit before she spoke. “Uh, I understand. I have something to tell you too.” She answered sounding a tiny bit unsure of herself. I just looked. “It all started when Sage and I spoke last night, then the moon goddess came and talked to me in my dream.” She started, then proceeded to tell me all about her conversation with her wolf and the whole conversation with the moon goddess. The moon goddess coming to my mate in a dream was even crazier. I’ve heard of her showing herself to people but she never did to anyone I knew. I was less pleased to find out that Gregory Gleason will have something to do with this, and that his former Alpha is going to try and take my mate. He was always a sucker to me. My dad doesn’t like his dad either so the feeling is mutual on that end, I knew that Geoff was mated to Raymond’s daughter and that is how he became an Alpha but I didn’t realize this legend that I have heard so many versions of was this close to home. I was beyond confused. And then to hear mating and marking Scarlett would amplify my own abilities was crazy too, to an almost unnatural level at that. I was already strong as it was and then being an Alpha was that much more powerful. Being honest I had always hoped that Greg challenges me for my pack when I become Alpha because I knew I would knock him dead; then those disputed lands wouldn’t be an issue anymore. It would make our pack that much bigger too. Scarlett cleared her throat and cleared my mind. “I’m nervous about all this babe. What if he actually takes me? What if we can’t do what the moon goddess wants? What if the elders don’t believe us and we can’t be together?” She said and her voice was so broken. Her eyes got full of tears. I stopped the car at the park, turned to her and grabbed her face. “If you with me, you good. Period.” I told her firmly. “No one takes anything from me.” She was still about to cry. Tune came forward and I couldn’t even stop him. “Mate.” She looked over. “You.are.mine.” Her eyes started to glow that icy red color, I’m starting her power now, my eyes don’t glow when Tune takes over, my pupils just turn his red. That means Sage was speaking to Tune directly. “I trust you, my mate.” She said and gave Scarlett back control. Tune gave me back control and we got out of the car. “I know we can’t go on a run because it’s the middle of the day, and the meeting with the elders won’t happen until another time. My dad is making the arrangements probably as we speak. Anything you wanted to do today?” I ask. I was hoping she would want to introduce me to her parents even though I knew based on what she told me about them I probably wouldn’t like them. “I wanted you to meet my parents but I honestly am not a huge fan myself so I doubt you’ll be.” She answered and chuckled. I laughed too. “I honestly didn’t want to tell them until after we mark each other because I don’t trust my stepdad either. Not to mention I know both my parents will talk trash because they know about Dina.” She said seriously. I hadn’t thought about that, Dina was the last thing on my mind. “Well I didn’t get to get you anything for your birthday so let’s go to the mall.” I didn’t want to push her and she had good reason for not wanting us to do the ‘parents’ thing yet. Especially since I dropped the bomb about the elders on her. “Sure.” She back enthusiastically. We get in the car and go to the mall. We went to the other mall because I know that’s the one she normally goes to. I bought her a few things and we ate lunch. My dad called when we were on the way back to the park, she wanted to smoke one and I did too. “Son, come home, I need to talk to you.” He said quickly, “Everything ok?” I asked back. “Yes and no. Come home son.” He said back and we hung up. “Baby, my dad has to talk to me, I think it’s about the elders.” I tell her. “Ok babe, thanks for today. I enjoyed you.” She tells me sincerely and smiled. I would never get tired of her smiling at me. I drop her off and head home. My father wouldn’t wait all day for me and he never sounds nervous like he did over the phone. Scarlett I’m happy Gavin and I got to spend some time together today. He bought me an outfit and we had lunch together. His dad called before we could do anything else. As I’m walking in my room my phone rings. Amaya. “Hey,” I answer. “Well thanks for calling me last night. I thought you were gonna be bored with your family. My mom said happy birthday by the way.” She said back. “Tell your mom ‘Gracias’ and I didn’t call because I wasn’t home. I ended up hanging out with Gavin.” I answer. She doesn’t know about werewolves so if I started “dating” Gavin it would just be like I finally have a boyfriend like my friends do. “Ooooohhhh I knew he was more just Josh’s brother!!! Girl why didn’t you say anything? Is he hot? Is he good in bed?!?!? Tell me! Tell me!” She screamed at me. “Wow slow down. One, yes he’s gorgeous. Two, we didn’t sleep together so I can only speculate about that.” I said back trying to calm her. “Why not?!? You’re 18 now, let your hair down and have a good time!” She encouraged. “There’s more to life than that ya know. And I don’t know why you buggin’ about me not calling you when I know you were more than likely with Thomas last night anyway.” I shot back. “Yeah, but still, I’ve would’ve listened.” She responded sounding bratty. She was spoiled as it was, only child and her parents almost worship the ground she walks on. “Girl whatever. You wanna come smoke one?” I ask, I knew she wasn’t calling for this. “Sure, be over in 15.” She said back. “K, bye.” I hang up. I roll up two. She came by and had some juice. I laughed. I go in my closet and she makes 2 drinks and we go out back. “My family is having dinner for me in a little while you wanna stay?” I ask her. “Sure, I’ll have my mom come get me later.” My mom was making me pork chops, mashed potatoes, and green beans because it’s one of my favorite things she makes. She had no problem with Amaya staying either, I invited her on purpose when she came over too. No werewolf talk since she was there. I know my mom was going to bring the mate thing up again because she didn’t like my answer or the fact that I don’t respond well to her “do what I say, not what I do” way of parenting. I do most of the dumb stuff I do because she doesn’t even listen to what she says unless she talking some crack pot idiotic crap, and that comes when she’s drunk. I also didn’t want her to bring up the legend while my stepdad was there. I’m sure she’s already told him what we talked about because she could never keep her mouth shut about anything important. After dinner we went to my room and Amaya started grilling me more about Gavin, what he looked like, how old is he, why she hasn’t met him, etc. I told her about him, that he turned 23 earlier this year, and I just met him not that long ago so how would she have met him. She didn’t say it but I knew she was jealous. Thomas was almost 20 and out of my friends so far that was the oldest guy any of my friends had ever been with. All of Amaya’s boyfriends have stepped to me at least once. Whether it’s them being drunk and doing it in her presence or trying to play it off like a joke, or behind her back and I literally could’ve slept with any and every single one. I’m not that way though, and she gets mad about it every time. I wasn’t trying to brag either, but I was proud Gavin was my mate. Nothing about his title or anything like that as I’ve been attracted to him since I first saw him; but we have a lot in common, he makes me feel pretty, and I’m pretty sure he’s not going to make fun or me or make me feel bad for being less experienced than he is at things. I should stop thinking about that for now before I blush talking about him to Amaya. “So when are we gonna meet your new boyfriend Scarlett?” She asked me. “Soon.” I said back. She wouldn’t leave me alone if I didn’t say something like that. Her mom came and got her not too long after we finished that conversation. I text Gavin after she left to see if he was done talking to his dad. He replied saying he’ll call me later. Even though we haven’t spent more than a little bit of time together I’m still happy about this weekend.
