Scarlett
My white wolf with black socks and icy red eyes is supposedly part of some legend. As much as I wanted Gavin to have his way with me over and over last night a lot went on. He brought me home after we talked about my wolf. Why now? Why me? Why not some Alpha or Luna for a part like this? “Do you know anything about this Sage?” I ask her curiously. She’s been very quiet about all this when both my mom and Gavin mentioned it. “Sage?” I say again. “Scarlett, sit down.” She said back cautiously. I sat down on my bed. “Yes, we are that wolf, but this is about Gavin more than you.” She said back. “Why would this be about Gavin Sage?” I ask her, what did my wolf have to do with him? “The legend we are part of is more than us being powerful. Why do you think this was given to an Omega?” She asks back. “Girl I don’t know! My mom is crazy, you’ve seen my memories! Why would I have believed that foolishness?!!?” I say back, more than annoyed. “Gavin doesn’t even know any more of the legend than she does, and he’s an Alpha for crying out loud!” I finish my rant. “Scarlett babe calm down! You just need to trust me. We are family now. Let me explain in its entirety.” She implored. I took a deep breath and calmed down. I roll up. If I have to hear this I want to relax more. Sage starts again, “The legend is about a scorned she-wolf. She was an Omega who happened to have an Alpha mate. Even though she was beautiful and the Alpha wanted her his father would not allow him to claim an Omega mate as this Alpha’s family were all mates to Alpha females from other packs, or Beta females. He thought it would tarnish their bloodline. The Alpha didn’t go against his father and rejected the female. The rejection should have killed her because she accepted him as soon as she saw him. But the moon goddess was on her side, not only did she live but she also blessed her wolf. A wolf named Sage.” I sat there listening with wide eyes. “Did that wolf happen to be you Sage? Like do you still see her memories?” I ask because she sounded sad the whole time she explained. “Yes and no. Yes we live again when the mother goddess decides to give us another human counterpart, but no as in I won’t have my previous human’s memories. And honestly, I only have certain memories so I don’t think any other wolf can remember their previous lives. I remember the feeling of being rejected at that time and what the mother goddess told me when she blessed me. ‘Sage, you will be more powerful than any Omega wolf ever. Use your power wisely and not for revenge. When the time comes your mate will be able to feed off of that power. You will have more size, strength, healing ability, and your vision will be better than anyone’s; so much so you’ll be able to see through walls when you want or need to. Your mate will need you when the time comes. Be patient.’ “After that I left that pack territory and never returned. I was too scared if I stayed that I would take revenge on that Alpha and his family. That Alpha was never given a second chance either, he ended up taking a chosen but never made an heir, only a daughter. His daughter also happened to be the Beta’s son’s mate from my understanding. I did get a second chance at that time but it was another Omega, I never told him about our blessing from the moon goddess as it was a small pack that he was from and we lived a simple life. I never got any powers though. My assumption is because my fated was an Alpha.” I was totally appalled. Rejected because of rank, then not being able to avenge it. Poor Sage, I honestly don’t know what’s worse, what happened to her, or what my parents did to each other. Both situations were blatant violations of the moon goddess. “Sage, I know you don’t wanna continue talking about this but I really wanna understand. So we will have powers. Do we have them now? What is this about our mate?” I ask her softly. “According to the goddess we were always supposed to mated to an Alpha, our very first mate rejecting us is what blessed us with our power. Not to brag but apparently whatever human is lucky enough to get blessed with me as their wolf was the Omega with either the personality and or drive that will more than motivate an Alpha. That’s why when you and Gavin were talking last night I told you I would claw your eyes out if you rejected him. But the legend states that with our mate our power is amplified and his abilities he naturally possesses will be amplified to an almost unnatural level. However, we won’t come into this until we mate and mark our mate.” She said back. “This is a lot to take in. Why did no one ever know the whole legend then? Because even our ALPHA mate knew little more than my Omega mother did about it.” I asked. “Little one, understand that I may have never returned to my original pack after the rejection but the Alpha who rejected me sought me out and found me after my second chance found me wondering in the woods. I met him in the woods one day while my second chance was training away from the pack, and proceeded to tell him everything. He regretted his decision to reject me and actually sought me out to rescind it but I had already accepted the bond with my second chance. I told him to leave after that never look for me again, and that if I saw him again after that day I’d kill him. He must have told the story to the elders or to someone who continued passing the story, although he had to have altered it so he didn’t look bad. Since then these versions of the story are now more like bedtime stories for children. Only those older or descendants of that Alpha know more I would think.” She explained. “So what was this Alpha’s name?” I asked her in reply. “Alpha Raymond North of the Glademoon Pack.” She said. My eyes widen in shock. That pack is actually the closest pack to us and actually are our rivals. As I mentioned the packhouse for our pack is actually closer to the Everglades and is secluded. The packhouse is still in the middle of the territory though. The Glademoon pack territory is closer to the county line. However we are rivals as there is a spot of land in between both packs that is disputed by both packs as we believe the land is part of our territory and vice versa. Both packs work with law enforcement, park rangers, etc. to keep our presence hidden. There are 5 packs in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. My dad’s pack who is known as the Villalobos pack in Miami, Luna Oscura Pack in Homestead, The Glademoon pack who are a little further north, The Lockmoon pack which is our pack, and The Sunshine Pack whose territory is in northern Broward County, approaching Palm Beach County. The elders of our region are responsible for these packs and the three packs in Palm Beach County. The current Alpha of The Glademoon Pack is Gregory Gleason. He and his father Geoffrey are both entitled pricks who complain about everything, it’s funny my wolf said the former Beta’s family ended up with the Alpha title because I didn’t get “Alpha” from Greg or his dad. I only met them because when my mom left my dad and his pack we almost went to that pack first. Thankfully, my whole family was there and all of us were totally against that Alpha and we ended up at Lockmoon. That’s when I found out my stepdad and his family didn’t have a pack, they were lone wolves who moved a few times and settled amongst humans. Another reason I didn’t like him, wolves are in packs by nature. His loyalties didn’t lie with anyone and his family seemed to be the type that will stick by whoever they stand to gain the most from. My mom was from the Villalobos pack originally and my dad’s family joined that pack when they moved here from Colombia. Sage broke me from my thoughts because I suppose since we share a mind she knew what I was thinking, “That pack is a rival of ours? And actually the closest to where we are?” She asked with a touch of anger in her voice. “Yes!” I exclaim. “Sage, when did this happen to you?” Because now I’m wondering how far back this legend goes. “Scarlett, Gleason’s grandfather would have been the Beta at that time, I remember hearing about Geoffrey after I shifted at that time, he was a little boy so he became the next Alpha after Raymond had no son. The mate to Raymond’s daughter.” So this legend is almost 100 years old and here I am thinking I just wanted to shift and run away. “Scarlett babe, get some sleep. Gavin said he wanted to talk to his dad today so he is working on our bond. We can’t run away from who we are.” She said lightly. As much as I agreed with her, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to this than what is going on. Why us? Why now? Is there someone out there to get us? I finally fell asleep a little while later after tossing and turning.
—The Dream—
I woke up in my bed and there was a woman sitting at my desk with a flowing, shiny, and glowing white dress there. She was beautiful. She had pale skin, sky blue eyes, a radiant smile, and raven black hair. “Um hello, who are you?” I ask as politely as I can. Her aura was powerful, and she looked like she wasn’t one to be messed with. “Hello Scarlett, I’m Selene, the moon goddess.” My jaw dropped. “I’m here because Sage told you the truth about who you are and what you’re meant to be. And you had questions.” I didn’t realize all I had to do to actually be in her presence was ask a bunch of questions. “It doesn’t work that way sweetie.” She replied. “I said that out loud?” I ask her. “No, but then again, I just told you who I was.” She said with a smirk. “To answer your questions, I’ll start with the first one. Why you? Because I knew Sage would be perfect for you. You’re enduring, smart, although a bit lazy as you can be doing more but I understand why you don’t. Why now? There is more going on than you realize. Is there someone out there to get you? There will be. The Glademoon Pack’s Alpha is underhanded and sneaky. He and Gavin already don’t like each other and he has no mate; mind you he and Gavin are the same age. Can you imagine the uproar that will take place once Gavin announces you as his fated mate and Luna?” She said. “But what does that have to do with the legend?” I ask back, I’m not an i***t so I understand what she is saying but not sure why, what are all these powers and abilities going to be used for? “Scarlett, Raymond North is still alive. Sage was in wolf form when they met last time. Even though she wasn’t mated and marked by her fated mate and her powers didn’t come to her at that time she still looked the same.” My eyes almost popped out of my head at that moment. “So, you’re saying that he will, he will, he-“ she cut me off, “Yes, he is going to betray everyone and try to take Sage by force. You, your mate, and your pack will already fall under scrutiny as it is due to Gavin already having an heir and not taking Dina as a chosen mate. However, the caveat here is that both of your packs are near humans and a certain number of them know of your presence. If the wrong person gets involved this situation becomes that much more delicate.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “Selene, what do I need to do? If all this is about my wolf which directly involves me that means I have a role in this right?” I ask. I’m so confused and can only think a moment at a time. “Yes, you have a role. Your role here is to learn as much as you can about self defense, recognizing who is for you and who isn’t, and trust your mate. We’ll talk again soon.” She winked and vanished into thin air.
I woke up sweaty and out of breath. It was 4 in the morning. I got up and showered. Gavin was on my mind. He’s probably up as he goes to training every morning and I wanted to call him but I decided against it. We’re going to see each other today anyway and I didn’t want him to be distracted while he was at the packhouse. I rolled up and went out back. As I was smoking I figured I should let Sage out. “Wanna go for a run? It’s still early enough where we could get away with it.” I asked. “Sure.” We left. I went to the edge of the park where a lot of the wolves go for runs and did just that. The morning dew and wet grass felt soothing on her paws. We got back home about an hour later. I’m sitting down at the table eating breakfast and my mom came in. “Good morning my girl. I know you went out for your birthday but we still wanted to do a family dinner. Can we tonight?” She asked. I knew I had to let her otherwise I would never get out of it. “Sure mom.” I say back. “Now that we have that part sorted out what color is your wolf?” She asked with excitement in her voice. “She’s all white with 4 black socks and her eyes are an icy red color.” I said back. “Wow, Sage sounds gorgeous. Are you excited you may meet your mate now?” I really hated that she asked me that because she knows I’m not a huge believer in the mate bond and she and my dad are the reasons. “I guess mom, you know I can’t get too excited about something that may never come or something I’ve never really seen.” I say to not blow my cover. I can’t say the Alpha’s son who is in a situation the whole pack not only knows about but judges him for is my destined mate; not to mention my wolf apparently is legendary. I thought about what Selene said and it may just be me really not liking that man but Juan strikes me as the type that will sell me out quicker than I could comprehend to the highest bidder. Prick. Once Gavin meets them I know he won’t be a fan of my parents, any of them. Fine with me, I’ll have things to do anyway and it’s not like I could get rid of them if I wanted to. “Scarlett stop going there with me. I can’t help what happened.” She said back with an attitude. “Cheating is a choice mom, both you and my father made the wrong ones. I’m not going there with you, if he was here I’d be going there with both of you. You knew what my answer would be when you asked the question.” I spat back. “Scarlett stop speaking to your mother that way!” I heard Juan yell as he came into the kitchen. “Sure thing I was just heading out. What time is dinner?” I look directly at my mom because she knows him butting in like always ruined something we needed to talk about. “Seven.” She said softly. “Kk.” I left.
