Chapter 7

Gavin Jr. I make it back home and run to my dad’s office at full speed. I knock and he says to come in. “Son it’s you! Good! Close the door and lock it.” He said quickly pointing at the door. I did what he said and sat in the guest chair in front of his desk. “I got back as quickly as I could Pop, Scarlett is on board with the plan too.” I tell him. He smiled. “They will be here the day after tomorrow.” He responds. “Son, I don’t know how to prove what we are saying. You said that y’all had to be mated and marked for her powers to come, and we don’t even know what the powers are going to be.” He said worried. “Pop I know it’s true. When we spoke earlier Tune came forward and so did Sage. I know that’s normal for our wolf to come forward when we get emotional but her eyes were glowing, they didn’t just turn her wolf’s eye color like mine or yours do.” He looked at me with a severe expression. I knew my father knew Scarlett because of my brother and he always was fond of her. Scarlett was not only pretty but she was smart and respectful. I know that’s why my dad wouldn’t have a problem with her being my mate, or the pack’s Luna for that matter. My mom would be a different issue. Not that Scarlett wouldn’t be able to win her over but my mom was a tough crowd. My mom didn’t partake in the smoking or drinking so I know that would be the main reason she didn’t like Scarlett. Not that she liked Dina but at least Dina didn’t participate in the extracurricular. I know that she would like Scarlett more than Dina and I just wanted them to get along. My mom and I were close, and I wouldn’t change that. I know Tasha would be happy that I found my fated. And seeing how Scarlett was I knew they would be fine. She got along with Dina well enough because she was just that type of person, well, until you try to do something to her or her family. My boys absolutely adore their Auntie. I actually can’t wait to see what Tasha’s wolf looks like. I know she’s an Alpha like us so probably black but I’m wondering if she will have different colors mixed in, we had to wait 6 more months to see. Scarlett texted me while I was in my dad’s office asking if I had spoken to my dad. I replied and said I’d call her later. Soon, I thought. Soon I would have my mate and I know my dad will be willing to do my Alpha ceremony too. I would name her my Luna on the same night. The future of my pack will announced together. After I finish with my dad I call my mate. “Hey baby,” I say when she answers. “Hi!” She said enthusiastically. “I’ve been thinking about you.” She said candidly. “Oh yeah, what about?” I ask her. “I don’t think I can say out loud.” She laughed and so did I. I wanted her so bad and I know she wanted me. “So my dad said the elders would be here the day after tomorrow. You ready?” I ask. “Ready to be with you, yes. Ready to speak to the elders and be who Sage says we are, absolutely not.” She answered seriously. “I’m still processing all this. I’m just an Omega. I never thought I’d be mated to who I actually wanted this whole time. Then you happen to be an Alpha. No wait, I’m part of a legend and you’re the next legendary Alpha apparently. You’ve given me no reason not to trust you Gav. At the same time now we’re meeting the elders of our region together and the only reason you and I will have a remote chance of being together is because I’m some legendary wolf. Anyone else who finds their mate on their 18th birthday gets to mate, mark, and live happily ever after. We don’t even get to do that without someone saying it’s ok.” She finished. “I can’t imagine how heavy this is for you. But believe me when I say I won’t leave you. I told you, if you with me you good.” I reassured her. “I believe you, just answering your question.” She said back. “It’s a little late but do you wanna hang out for awhile?” I ask. “Sure. I have a movie we can watch.” She suggested. “Ok I’m coming to you.” I answer back. After I get there I hop through the window and she apologizes. “At least this won’t be an all the time thing.” She said sheepishly. I pull her to me and she sits on my lap. It’s amusing to me that she can’t look at me for more than a few seconds without looking away because she’s blushing. Being here with her makes me feel the opposite of what I feel with Dina. Numerous times I though about going ahead and making her the Luna to get my title but at this very moment I’m happy I didn’t. “Wanna watch that movie?” She asked me. “Ok what we watchin’?” I ask. Honestly I didn’t want to watch a movie but I know she has to distract herself too. If Tune is bugging me as much as he is I know Sage must be running a million miles in her head right now. “You see Constantine? I know it’s been out a couple months but I have it on DVD.” She asked me. I did see the movie but I liked it. Good taste, for a female. “I did see it but let’s watch it, I liked it.” I answer. I could tell she was happy I said that. “You like horror movies?” I ask her. “Oh yeah, I mean I like to laugh but I love horror movies. And I’m a girl so a good romance is good too. Not that I’d pick rom-coms and invite you over.” She laughs. “Ok I can deal with that.” I tell her. I smile at her and she comes and lays on me as the movie starts. Scarlett I come and lay down as the movie starts and I’m so content laying here with him. He smells so good, and my view looking up at him while laying here was perfect, absolutely perfect. I would never get tired of him. After awhile I was fighting sleep because I was so comfortable just being here. While I’m making myself get up he woke up. I laughed because both of us had obligations tomorrow and had we both fell asleep would’ve been a rough morning for us both. Gavin pulled me flush against him and bent down to hug me. I put my arms around his neck and just sighed. “We can just be soon, right” I ask him trying to reassure myself. “Let’s get through tomorrow, I won’t let anyone keep you from me.” He said confidently. I chuckle a little. “I don’t know if I can keep doing this where you leave.” I said truthfully. I was serious too, this whole hanging out not mating thing is really eating away at me. I wasn’t trying to rush to have s*x or anything like that, but to know the moon goddess gave me the one person I’ve had my eye on made me actually made me feel a certain kind of way. By the way Gavin has been with me I know he’ll take care of me too. He broke me out of my thoughts when he spoke, “Call me when you get outta school?” “Of course.” I answered back. I gave him a kiss and he left. I went to bed and snuggled up to my pillow with his scent all over it and went right to sleep. I got up the next morning and did my same routine. Amaya and her mom picked me up and we go to school. School is so boring and how people want to teach others this crap we’re never going to use is beyond me. I think if I was in trade school or something hands on I would be more interested. My teachers wanted me to do dual enrollment or take AP classes but I didn’t. I wasn’t sure what I wanted my career path to be or if I even wanted to go to college. I’m all for an education but if I was going to be spending time and money somewhere it had to be what I wanted. My parents didn’t go to college, Gavin didn’t either. I know he knew all about his dad’s company that he would take over one day later but that doesn’t mean I have to think that way. Even still I was uncertain. I go about my day and on the way out of school for the day Amaya calls me. “Hello,” I answer. I’m a little annoyed because I was going to call Gavin. “Hey, what are gonna be doing when you get home?” She asks. “I didn’t have plans.” I answer back, I mean I was going to call my mate but we can talk about tomorrow later. “I have some stuff, can I come over?” “Sure, come on.” “Kk, bye.” She hung up. Amaya can’t roll up, and she can’t hit her bowl at home because her mom would flip. Saves me some money today. I called Gavin as I’m home now. “Heyyyyyy!” I answer when he picks up. He laughs and says hey back. “What are you up to?” He asked me. “Amaya is coming over in a little bit so we’ll probably just smoke and hang for awhile.” I answer. “Amaya a good friend to you?” He asked me curiously. “Good as a human can be.” I said back. “Human huh?” He chuckled. “I know a few wolves I go to school with and all that but I don’t hang with a lot of people. I’ve known Amaya for 5 years now.” I defend. “Nothing against the humans, you’re just more easygoing about some things than I am.” He said. “I didn’t feed into the whole mate hype coming up so honestly I avoided other wolves a tiny bit because I didn’t think it would work out well for me.” I confess. “I know many wolves and humans just being in school and living in the mixed up neighborhoods I grew up in, I just couldn’t put myself in a position like that.” I add. “I understand, and I don’t blame you. But if we’re gonna get through this we need to trust each other.” He tells me. “Ok, I trust you. I’m just nervous is all.” I say back finally. “Amaya just got here, can I call you later?” I ask, “Of course, talk to you later baby.” He said and hung up. Amaya came in and I rolled up. Amaya I was hoping when I invited myself over to Scarlett’s house she would invite Gavin. I am a really nosy person and I want to see who finally snagged her after all these years of trying to get her setup with someone. But she didn’t. She gets on my nerves sometimes. “Whatcha doin after school tomorrow? My mom is picking up my Abuela from the airport so you can meet her.” I ask. “I already have plans with Gavin but I can come the next day if that’s alright. I’ll just leave school with y’all.” She said back excitedly. I didn’t know if the excitement was for Gavin or my grandma. Scarlett is good with my family, my mom treats her like she treats me. My dad is cool with her, and all my cousins (I have so many cousins my life could’ve been like that movie “My big fat Greek wedding”) are cooler with her than with me at this point. We go to each other’s family functions too, so I know her family but she isn’t super close to them. “Ooohh plans huh?” I jest. “Yeah plans.” She shot back. Normally she’d elaborate, maybe she didn’t know what they were. “Let’s go on a double date this weekend!!” I said back. “Let’s get through this week first Mya.” She said in response. “Ok, but by Friday I expect you to say yes.” I answer firmly. “Girl whatever.” She laughed. I went home not that much later. Scarlett Amaya. Always so damn nosy. She wanted to meet Gavin like she doesn’t have a man herself. Humans are weird. Anyways, today is the day. We’ll be meeting with the elders when I get out of school today. Gavin already said he’s going to pick me up and we’re going to the packhouse after, we’ll have lunch and by then they should be there. I was nervous all morning at school. Thankfully Amaya was nowhere around when we got out of school so she couldn’t stop Gavin and I from leaving. I didn’t want to be there any longer than I had to and honestly I was nervous about meeting the Luna finally. I don’t think Mrs. Francis likes me that much. Given I’ve only seen her twice since my family has been part of the pack but I know she won’t like my habits as she isn’t that way and Tasha isn’t either. Hopefully she likes me more than Dina and we learn to love each other being that I’m her son’s mate. I didn’t get a chance to ask Gavin about Dina. Would she be part of the meeting? Are we going to have to challenge each other? Is she going to throw bleach on me? As if he read my mind as I was opening my mouth to speak, “Dina is not my mate. She will not be part of this meeting today. She is not at the packhouse. I made sure of it.” He said plainly. “Ok.” I say back. I felt a tiny bit better after that. I reached over and put my hand on his thigh while he drove. He grabbed it and just held it as we pulled up. “Hey son!” His dad exclaimed as we pulled up. “Hi Mr. Timberlock.” I greet the Alpha. “Scarlett, how are you?” He asked me. “Good, nervous.” I said back softly. He laughed. “You’ll be fine. And I’m sure with training and time you will be a great Luna for my pack.” He said with genuine sincerity in his voice. “I’m happy one of us thinks that.” I say back with a nervous chuckle. “Come get some lunch Scarlett, we all feel better on a full stomach.” He said. “Thanks, you have no idea how much better you made me feel Alpha.” I said to him as we went inside. “I’ll be your dad or pop Scarlett we’ll be family soon. No need for formalities.” He said with a smile. I smiled back. “Now, do you know where the best barbecue in the world comes from?” He asked happily, I look at Gavin who just smiles. “Where ever my nose is taking me.” I answer as I follow the most delicious smoky smell is coming from. When we got to the dining room I thought I had died and went to barbecue heaven. There were ribs, Cornish hens, hot dogs, burgers, and sides for days. I rubbed my hands together and didn’t know where to start. Now if someone saw me they might mistake me for one of those “Oh, just a simple salad for me” type girls. WRONG!!! I can eat my weight in one sitting and it doesn’t help that I’m a full werewolf. Francis entered the dining room at that time with some drinks in her hands. I quickly made my way to her to help. She made me sit down but I could tell she appreciated the gesture. We prayed and I made a huge pile on my plate. Francis laughed “You’re going to eat all that?” She said playfully. “Maybe more.” I laughed back. I immediately complimented every single thing I ate as this in fact was the best barbecue ever. After lunch I helped the other Omegas and Francis straighten up the dining room and kitchen. I saw she was being mindlinked and she then rushed me out of the kitchen and into their conference room. “They are being escorted into the packhouse now. Gavin and I sat to his father’s right. Soon 7 older powerful looking men came into the conference room. They sat down and we all introduced ourselves. Our elder that was from our pack sat closest to Alpha Gavin, his name is Patrick. I met him once when I was here with Josh and was watching he and his dad work on his car. He was a tall African American man with a very small and tight afro. He was still built looking despite his older years and had a very deep voice. After the rest of the elders started talking I noticed all the elders had deeper voices, I guess their age, experience, and power demanded it. “Hello Scarlett.” Patrick spoke to me. “Good afternoon Elder Patrick. Good to see you again.” I say back respectfully. He smiled and continued, “You as well. Now we have all heard the situation, and I must say I was quite surprised.” He said. “You’re not the only one.” I say with a small laugh. They all chuckled and another man addressed me. I think he was Joel. “Scarlett. I know this is all crazy and you just gained your wolf. I don’t know how you are processing all this so calmly, especially with all of us here. Your mate already having children, whose mother still lives in the packhouse.” Gavin Jr. didn’t like that statement. I saw the frown that took his face. I put my hand on his thigh and he straightened up. “And through all this you sit here before us with a confidence and calmness about yourself that is befitting a Luna.” He finished. My eyes widened. I didn’t think just sitting here and being polite put all that together. “I, uh, excuse me, I’m wondering if there is more to this legend than what my mate and his family have heard. My wolf told me but since an Alpha told this story to others I’m wanting to know what you know.” I said, trying to keep my composure. “Gavin,” Joel said and looked directly at my mate, “You have a good one here. Love and cherish her.” He said. Gavin smiled at me. “Young Scarlett, you are as sharp as you are polite. The only thing we knew that others who know this legend don’t know is what your wolf looks like. That is how we were going to prove your claim.” He said. Sage took over and my eyes started glowing. “Her eyes,” Patrick said. “They are literally glowing, and it’s day time here with plenty of sunlight coming into this room.” He finished. Sage decided she wanted to speak, “Respectable elders, my mate was present when I shifted for the first time, as there was a full moon on my birthday.” Their eyes widened as they looked at Gavin who just nodded. “If you require me shifting as proof of who I am it must be done here in this office. I will not disrespect my future pack or your traditions of shifting for the first time in front of my pack without being named it’s Luna.” She said and gave me back control. “Gavin, wasn’t your 18th birthday on the day of a full moon?” One of the other elders asked. “It was.” He answered quickly. “Patrick, how are we to deal with this?” Gavin Sr. asked. “Alpha Gavin, this is most extraordinary. Dina will not be made the Luna of this pack. Although that is the law, we cannot go against the moon goddess. She blessed your pack with an alpha and luna pair of legend. Gavin Jr. will be required to petition for sole custody of his sons. Dina will be granted visitation and will remain a pack member if she so chooses. If not she can be released.” He said finally. “Scarlett, as part of our investigation we do require you shift. It’s a formality at this point but necessary for all the other elders of our state need.” He said. Gavin excused himself and brought back a robe. I changed in the bathroom near the conference room and came back in. I gave Sage control and shifted. The elders were in awe of us. Patrick clapped his hands happily and asked his peers, “Gentlemen, have any of you ever been in the presence of a legend? 2 if you count the future alpha.” The other elders were still trying to get over this initial shock. Gavin held up the robe in front of me to keep everyone from seeing while I shifted back and put it on. “Gentlemen,” I address them. Everyone in the room looked at me. “While I’m beyond happy to have your approval, there is another question I would appreciate your input on.” Patrick spoke, “Please young Luna, ask.” Both the moon goddess and my wolf made it a point to tell me that Raymond North is still after the mate he rejected all those years ago and Selene’s words were for me to prepare myself for it. What does that mean to any of you? I will not put my pack in danger.” I said. Patrick rubbed the small patch of hair on his chin and said, “No one will be told of the legend and we will be monitoring activity from that pack. Raymond North especially.” He continued, “Gentlemen,” he said addressing Gavin and his father, “We expect an invite to your ceremonies during the next full moon.” He said smiling. We smiled back and bowed our heads in respect. Finally, we can be together. I looked at Gavin who was already smiling at me and a huge smile took over my face.
