CHARLATANS
Hailey got home and was glad that Maggie was not home yet when she pulled up in the driveway, and the nosy neighbour Ms Jenkins was nowhere in plain sight or it would have been a problem; with her mood swings and anger and the barrage of emotions that flooded her existence.
She entered the house and just went straight for the fridge. She had been fantasizing about her favorite milkshake, at least to calm her frayed nerves.
Opening the fridge, it wasn't there.
"Maggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Hailey screamed and her fangs popped out.
"Take deep breaths, Hailey. Breathe pumpkin. You will get through this. Don't think too much or you will end up doing something you will regret. Breathe baby. You have got this covered. I promise you, it will be alright. Think of how far you have come. On your own, from losing your family in that blood bath to changing families in foster care, to where you are now. Wear your crown Queen. You deserve peace." Her innermost thoughts brought her to a place of calm and tranquility; only then was she able to retract her fangs and her pupils stopped dilating.
She needed an urgent detail from her ID card for a bank verification process which was pending, to enable her to secure a loan for a business idea and the customer service representative had just called her to forward the details to the official email address of the Microfinance Bank of Venice, Italy in 24 hours or risk losing the money; since a lot of people were queuing up to receive this allocation too.
She went to her bag, and her car and searched the whole house, combing every inch and it wasn't there.
"Could this day get any worse?" She groaned.
She was on the brink of getting the money and she misplaced the means to get through the last stage, after waiting for three months for approval from the Board of Directors of an astute and reputable financial institution.
"It is finished indeed. How could I have misplaced the only thing that houses treasurable documents, such as my wallet?" She started to sob.
All the pent-up anger came up and she yelled in pain and frustration, she started cursing at the unknown person who made her this bloodthirsty monster, cursing at Maggie for ruining her chances at a promotion to a better place at work due to her nasty s****l fantasies, and also for drinking her milkshake, cursing at the man who used his charming looks to make her lose her composure and has now put her in a fix.
She could have driven back to the woods to get the wallet, in hopes that it was still
going to be lying amongst the dried autumn leaves in camouflage since it is dusty brown too in color but, she didn't have fuel to leave the house with.
She cried harder.
Amid her pain and tears, her phone rang.
She answered the phone in rage and shouted, "WHAT!!!!!??????" "Oh my! Did I call at a bad time?" Said the caller, from the bank. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I can hear you now." She said sniffing.
"I'm sorry Hailey, the memo just came in and we are told to cancel all loan applications. In essence, we are not predisposed to enough cash to sort out the financial problems of the people without putting the bank at risk of winding up in this economic crisis. We are sorry." The phone went dead with a click and she didn't even get to say anything to show receipt of such nerve-wracking information.
The key turned and Maggie came into the house, kissing and fondling with the scrotal sac of this strange guy.
Rage engulfed Hailey and she was so blinded by it, she went up in such speed and snapped his neck, enough to make him unconscious and out cold for the serious conversation and thrashing she was about to give Maggie who was misbehaving all the time.
Maggie was shocked when she asked, "What are you!!!????? What did you do to Jonathan???!!! Where did you learn to do that!!!??? Who are you and have you done to Hailey!???"
"Shut up and s**t the hell down Maggie. Read my lips. We need to talk and you will stay silent till I finish. Understood?"
Maggie had never seen Hailey this enraged before. She mouthed an inaudible "yes" and sat down like an animal frozen in the snow, occasionally stealing glances at the unconscious body of her newest interest; one she would have loved to try out her wild s****l fantasies with.
Hailey followed her line of vision and spoke ever so calmly, "he still has a pulse, I didn't break his neck. Now young lady, let me have your attention."
Maggie was numb and only nodded her head in agreement, like someone in a trance...she sat down and watched Hailey with her pupils dilating and she felt dizzy.
Hailey snapped her fingers in her face and spoke in hushed tones.
"Maggie, I have become what I loathe so much...Scratch that, I am what I abhor wholly.
Do you understand?"
Maggie was petrified, to say the least. She gulped down on her saliva and it felt like she was going to have a seizure. She wasn't breathing and her color was turning blue. Swallowing so hard made her feel like her parched throat was going to burst open and let her trachea fall out. She found her voice after a few minutes of processing her thoughts.
"What are you talking about Hailey? Becoming what you loathe or whatever...Make it make sense. I'm lost."
"Let me show you. Some things are better shown than explained."
"Hailey????? You just snapped my man's neck, oh wait...my friend's neck like a twig and expect me to be calm. What are you up to?"
Hailey stood up and in barely a split second, went to the kitchen and got back with a glass of water for Maggie's parched throat.
"Wait, what???? How did you get to the fridge and back, like so fast!!!?" Maggie's breathing became shallow as she accepted the water, she needed it.
With a smirk, Hailey said, "That is showing you what becoming the thing I loathe most is all about."
Maggie's brows furrowed as she gulped and watched Hailey saunter across the room and cross over to the pale body of the brunette-haired man on the rug to slap him awake.
"Wake up buddy. Pack up your s**t and leave this house never to return to this house. Forget everything." Hailey compelled him and he scampered for safety before things got ugly.
Hailey laughed a throaty kind of laugh and said across her shoulder to her stunned roommate, "I'm going for a drink. And next time, stay out of my fridge and avoid my smoothies."
Maggie nodded and watched Hailey go out. The door closed with a click and she sat down to cry in anger; she owed a lot of people and couldn't send her overbearing roommate out. She hated being indebted to anyone and it was going to cost her, like it did with this man who was to fuel her s****l fantasies.
She resolved to fix it and get her life in perspective, but it was going to take time and she wasn't sure whether she had it. Time will have to tell in this situation or it was indeed really over.
