"It's quieter than I thought it would be on a weekend." I mumble, looking around our local bar, Razers. George groans and face plants the table.
“Will you at least be a little bit optimistic about this evening?” George snaps. I roll my eyes at him and tap my fingers on the table, looking around again. I can’t believe she ditched me like this. I thought she was actually interested in me. But it seems like she only wants people who are easy to sleep with.
“We have more drinks!” The girl, Chloe, cheers as she and Eric come back to the table with three shots for the four shots. We are a small town and underage drinking is acceptable to some extent, But I don’t condone it nor do I participate in it generally but Rayne not being here has really really made me want to drink my woes away. I can’t believe I am this attached to her already.
Chloe is a beautiful blonde with blue eyes and a goth look about her. She is a really cool person but my mind is still stuck on the black haired beauty who calls me Sweater Paws.
“I could definitely use one.” I mumble, picking the glass up, “Cheers?” I ask, raising it. We clink our glasses.
“So, Alex. What are you planning to do after school?” Chloe asks and I roll my eyes with a smile.
“What are you? My nosy uncle?” I raise my eyebrows at her, “I don’t know. I think I am going to take a year off. Travel around the world.” I shrug, taking a sip of my beer.
“You guys started the party without me?” A voice chuckles from behind me. My eyes widen and I turn around, “Hey, Sweater Paws.”
“You are late.” I mumble, turning back to the group. Rayne sighs but leans against the table beside me.
“I’m sorry, okay? Something came up.” Her hand rests on mine and I sigh heavily and turn to look at her. Her electric blue eyes hold the cutest puppy dog expression, not that I will ever tell her that.
“Really?” I raise an eyebrow at her, “It wasn’t because I am not an easy hook up?” Her eyes harden, turning into ice sculptures.
“I am not trying to date you because I think you are an easy lay. I actually really like you. Is that so hard to understand? I cut myself while cooking for my siblings. That’s why I was late.” She says, holding up her left hand. Sure enough, there was a bandage on her middle finger.
“Were you thinking about me when you cut yourself?” I grin goofily at her. She chuckles before shaking her head.
“Maybe I was. Maybe I was thinking about how I can make our date worth a hunt with Artemis.” I push her shoulder lightly.
“Shut up or you won’t get that date at all.” I mumble.
“You think you can introduce us?” George brings my attention back to the group. I facepalm. I forgot about them.
“George, Eric, this is Rayne. Rayne, this is George, my brother and Eric, his boyfriend. This is Chloe, Eric's friend from work.” I introduce them and she waves at them with a small smile.
“Oohh.. The Knight in Rainbow Flag, huh?” George wiggles his eyebrows at me.
“What now?” Rayne asks, raising an eyebrow at him. I roll my eyes at my brother. He seriously has no filter at all.
“I told them about the way you saved me from Jackson. And now George calls you a Knight in Rainbow Flag because you are gay.”
“I like that. It’s an amazing title. If I was a superhero, that would be my alias.” She chuckles, fist bumping my brother.
“You all are idiots.” I shake my head at them.
“You are hanging out with us. So, what does that say about you?” Chloe raises an eyebrow at me and I stick my tongue out at her, “So mature.”
“I am going out for a smoke. Alex? Care to join me?” Rayne asks me, taking out her cigarette pack and lighter. I shrug and grab my jacket to follow her out.
“Hey, Sweater Paws… How have you been? Any more weird dreams about me?” She asks, leaning against the wall beside the door outside the bar. I study her as she takes a cigarette out and lights it. The flame illuminates her eyes, giving them a silver glow. She looks hot in her black hoodie and white skinny jeans. A beanie rests on her brow.
“You got a haircut?” I ask, reaching over and touching the short hair that spots just above her neck. It’s so soft and silky. She smirks at me, shrugging a little.
“Yeah. I wanted something new. Got a new tattoo as well.” She pulls the left sleeve of her hoodie up, exposing her forearm. A beautiful design of an arrow notched into a beautifully carved bow stares back at me. It’s still wrapped in a plastic wrap and a little red but still looks mighty fine.
“Woah…” I whisper, moving closer and taking her arm in my hand for a closer look. “It’s so pretty.”
“It’s inspired by your dream.” Her whisper makes me look up and my breath hitches as I realize how close our faces are. Her eyes look even more beautiful now that we are this close. I can see the brown freckles surrounding her pupils.
“I can see that…” I whisper, tilting my head to a side as our foreheads touch.
“Does this feel appropriate enough to beat a hunt with Artemis?” Her minty, smoky breath washes over my face and I lean in, closing the gap between our lips. She gasps, apparently taken by surprise but kisses me back just as urgently. Our lips fit perfectly well together and move together in such a synchronized manner that it feels rehearsed.
Her hands come up to rest on my cheeks as she nibbles on my bottom lip, asking for entrance that I gladly give her. My tongue meets hers tentatively before she takes the lead, making me moan at her taste. Strawberries and mint, marred with a little bit of cigarette but still sweet and fresh.
A zap of electricity shocks my body, making me squeeze my eyes shut and grip her hoodie in my hands. The same powerful force that I feel every time we are close knocks my breath away, singing just below my skin. But this time it’s different. It doesn’t hurt or leave me breathless. It makes me feel complete and powerful. Alive almost.
Rayne’s lips move down to my neck as my hands twist in her short hair. She turns us around before pushing me against the wall. I throw my head back, biting my lip to hold back a moan as she nibbles on my sweet spot, just below my ear.
“f**k, Rayne…” I whisper as she comes back up to face me. Her lips meet mine as if unable to stay away and I kiss her back just as urgently, my hands coming up to meet her cheeks. Her warmth permeates my cold hands and she hums, smiling against my lips before pulling away.
“I’ve been waiting to do that since I first saw you in our English class.” Rayne whispers. I giggle, dropping my head on her shoulder.
“I hope it was worth it.” I raise an eyebrow at her. She throws her head back laughing.
“So worth the wait.” She mumbles before pecking my lips, “We should probably head inside.” Her arms around me tighten as if she doesn’t really want that. Dark blue eyes glance down at lips before meeting mine again with ill concealed lust and want.
“Hmm.” I wrap my arms around her neck before leaning up on my tiptoes, “Or we can take this to my place, see where the night leads us.” I whisper in her ear. She pulls back, her eyes darker than the dark blue sky above us before she leans down and kisses me again a little more forcefully this time.
“I’ll get my car.” She whispers, pulling away from me with a mischievous smirk on her lips.
I sigh as I pull my phone out to text George.
‘Hey. I am heading home with Rayne. Sorry for bailing on you.’
‘Our motive was to get you laid. You are getting laid. Mission complete.’ I chuckle at his response, shaking my head.
‘Alright. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t and take care. I’ll see you soon, okay?’
‘I am the older one here! I should be saying that!’
‘By three months!’ A rustling sound from the bushes pulls me out of my phone. My eyes look for the source of the sound. I gasp as I see two, blood red eyes staring back at me. A shiver runs down my spine as the thing reveals it's glistening white canines at me. I gulp and start backing away when a black Mercedes pulls up before me.
"You own a Merc?" I raise an eyebrow at Rayne as she grins up at me.
"You aren't the only family in town allowed to be rich, Newman. Get in." I look at the bushes again but see nothing at all.
'Maybe I am really losing my mind.' I think as I walk over to the other side of the car.
Rayne leans over the middle console and presses her lips against mine, making the worries fly out of my mind.
"You sure about this?" She whispers.
"Rayne, I am so turned on right now that if we don't get to my place soon, I might combust." I whisper back, giving her a chaste kiss and then buckling my seatbelt as she chuckles and starts the car.
"I did not think laying with a woman would be so pleasurable." I sigh as I lay back on the soft silks of the goddess' bed.
"And to think you were going to marry men.” The Goddess chuckles beside me. I look up at the ethereal beauty as she stares down at me with adoration shining in her usually stormy blue eyes. I have never seen her look so calm before.
“Thank you for saving me from such a terrible faith, my Lady. How will I ever repay your debt?” I giggle, starting to get up. It’s nearly dawn and I cannot be seen by the other huntresses. I don’t want them to think any differently of me. As it is they are jealous of me because our Lady spends more time with me than them.
“Spend the night with me.” The whisper behind me makes me shiver. I turn around to find Artemis staring at me with big doe eyes, looking as innocent as a newborn.
“I don’t want others to treat me any differently than they do already, my Queen.” I mumble, looking at her over my shoulder.
“You won’t be. I will rip out the eyes of whoever tries.” Soft lips touch my shoulders. A sigh escapes me as the lips move to my neck and up my jawline as her hand wraps around my throat. I let out a moan but pull away.
“I am making breakfast today. Unless you wanna skip it.” I mumble turning around to face the short haired beauty.
“I can eat you for breakfast.” Rayne smirks, making me roll my eyes.
I gasp and wake up. Another weird dream. How do they always end with Rayne? I look beside me to see her sleeping there peacefully as last night’s events play in my head. I sigh and lay back down, staring at the ceiling.
The dream felt so realistic. Like a memory. The warmth and the way Artemis’ lips felt on my shoulder…
My train of thought gets interrupted as Rayne wraps an arm around my waist, snuggling into my shoulder. Her soft snores are the only sound in the room. A warm feeling spreads through me.
And it feels like home.
