She was thrilled to have gotten her first invitation to a party with the popular kids in her class at Jackson Middle School, but there was no way on God’s green earth that her mother would allow her to go. It was not even worth asking. What Patty needed was a distraction, something to send her mother into a tizzy long enough for Patty to get away unnoticed.
