"Now where exactly is the kitchen?" Grace asked herself when she remembered the instruction Mrs Jones gave her before leaving the room.
She opened the door in an attempt to find the location of the kitchen but what she saw immediately after she left the room, beat her imagination.
The place was looking so beautiful and filled with lights of different colours. There was a very large television at the other side of the living room and the chairs were sparkling in their golden colours and to clear her doubts, there were so many family portrait on the wall. She saw Mrs Jones in one with a man whom she assumed was her husband and in another, there was Mrs Jones, the man and four children. In another was just the children. "Wow, beautiful family", Grace thought to her self.
Looking at the whole place and the beauty of the house, Grace wished she could just put her family in this house and just make them comfortable even if it's just for a day. From that moment, she decided to be very good at everything she does so that her family will not have to suffer for so long again.
Just then, Mrs Jones walked out from one side of the living room just opposite where Grace was standing and asked her why she was delaying. The girl explained that she didn't know her way around the house and Mrs Jon just nodded in understanding. Grace was new in the house so she definitely didn't know her way around yet. She asked Grace to follow her so she could show her to the kitchen. When they got to the kitchen, it was looking so different from any other kitchen the girl had ever set her eyes on.
There was a very big table in the middle with cabinets all around the wall from the top to bottom. There was very big cooking gas which had something cooking on it. Grace wondered what could be having such aroma. The kitchen was neat and beautifully furnished. The whole place seemed well kept and under control. Grace couldn't stop but wonder what Mrs Jones needed a house help for since the whole place looked well maintained. To her, this meant that Mrs Jones was not a lazy person.
It was Mrs jones's voice that brought her back to reality. She was calling her and asking if she was alright. Grace simply assured her that she was absolutely fine. She was just wondering if this kind of life was ever going to suit her person because she was not brought up in such a place. To her, this was a palace.
Just then, Mrs Jones told her to keep an eye on what was cooking so it doesn't get burnt. She explained that she needed to attend to something urgently and Grace just nodded. When Mrs Jones left, Grace decided to check what was on fire that produced such an inviting aroma. When she opened the pot, the aroma increased with the vapour rising to her face. "Wow, it's chicken!" Grace exclaimed happily to herself. She hadn't had that in a while. She decided to close the pot immediately, not wanting Mrs Jones comes and accuse her of stealing a piece. Her mother had warned her about situations like this.
Just then, she decided to look at the table and what she saw made her shocked beyond words. It was money. She looked around before taking a better look. It was a hundred dollar note on the table. She was surprised and for some time, she was in a dilemma thinking of what to do, maybe to take the money and hide it or just leave it there for Mrs Jones.
Something inside told Grace that she was being set up with the money and that she should be wise enough not to touch it or else, she would lose her job. To her, the money was a lot but it wouldn't be enough to solve her family's problem. What if she steals and gets caught? She won't be able to help her mum anymore and that would make her mother cry so badly out of disappointment. She suddenly said to herself "No, I must make my mum proud and I will never steal to do no matter what comes. I promise to remain content and satisfied with what is mine". It was more like an anthem to herself.
She left the money there and checked what was cooking. She was grateful she did that at that moment because it was about to get burnt. She switched the gas off and went to look for Mrs Jones. She followed the door Mrs Jones took earlier, hoping to find her but when she came out of the kitchen, she saw a small corridor.
She walked out and saw the living room but she didn't know where to follow out so, she decided to go back to the kitchen and just wait for her. Grace wondered where she must have gone besides she didn't sound like she was going too far when she left the kitchen earlier. The house was so big, that every direction she turned seemed to be a new sight for admiration. She even still wonders how she came into the house without seeing the living room and coming out from her room to discover the amazing sight. There is a lot about this house that Grace hadn't seen yet. She knew that would take some time, but she believed she would get the hang of it pretty soon.
She sat in the kitchen and prayed that Mrs Jones would come back from where ever she had gone because the house was getting scary for her. How can she be in such a big house all alone? She asked herself. Just then, Mrs Jones came in... "
Oh dear, hope you remembered to put off the gas? Sorry, I had to go pick up my children from my mum's place. It's just a stone's throw from here", she explained.
