Some people fall in love at first sight For us, it was almost the opposite We met as children, grew up around the same people, attended the same events, and watched our families grow closer by the day Everyone thought we were so lucky to have met They were wrong Because somewhere along the way, Kael Reyes and I became enemies Not because our families were enemies They weren't Our families were friends, and they laughed and celebrated the day we became friends But Kael and I had other ideas We competed against each other Always trying to best the other in everything Our grades Our competitions Our achievements Even the most minuscule of things became a rivalry If I won, he tried to win the next If he won, I tried to win the next We fought for our pride And somehow, it always worked out Our rivalry became a part of us Years passed, and nothing changed Or so I thought Because there was something that neither one of us saw Behind all of our bickering and fighting, there was something else Something that we both tried to deny Something that we both tried to ignore Something that we both tried to hide But it was there all the same And then one summer happened A summer full of sunsets and surprises and memories that we never thought we'd make A summer where the boy I fought for so long became the boy that I couldn't imagine living without Maybe we weren't enemies all along Maybe we were just two fools who failed to realize that all along, we fought for the same prize Each other
