Kyle's POV
Next Evening.
I patiently waited by the school gates. After settling all her teacher stuff, whatever that meant, Lilian walked out. She was clearly surprised to see me waiting there.
But I wouldn't say she was disappointed. Lilian walked up to me and tucked a lose strand of hair behind her ear. She looked beautiful as ever. A plain, below the knee length, light blue cotton dress hugged her body. Just until the waist. It had a subtle flare waist down. Her hair was fully braided at the back with lose golden tendrils framing her sweet face.
She looked lovely but I didn't miss the redness just right below her eyes. She was still troubled. Her skin was pale and almost sickly. I couldn't help but notice that she had lost some weight.
I looked at her painfully because I couldn't help her.
"Kyle I thought we decided to give it a couple of weeks." Instead of saying anything, I hugged her.
"How are you Lilian? I had to see you." She immediately hugged me back like she had been needing me for a long time. It made my heart ache even more.
"I'm fine Kyle. I'm getting better." She said nervously.
"Lilian-"
"Kyle, I'm not crazy." She blurted out.
What the hell?
"I. Am. Not. Crazy. You have to believe me. I know it's been weird, I've been weird and I've put you in questionable situations but the truth is.....I'm not out of my mind. I'm not crazy." Her voice broke at the end.
"Of course you're not, stupid woman! Whoever said you were?!" She looked away, seeming to be embarrassed.
"They keep saying-"
"Who?!" I gripped her shoulders and made her look at me.
"First my neighbour, then the doctor, sometimes my grandfather and aunties would give me this strange look that would make my insides burn...." She whispered sadly. She was already hurting and these assholes were making everything worse. I knew Lilian and I know she wasn't crazy.
"Lilian why don't you come home with me tonight?" She blinked up at me in surprise.
"I have another appointment tonight. My grandfather won't be happy if I missed it Kyle."
"Are the appointments any good?" When she slowly shook her head, I pulled her towards the carriage. "I'll speak to your grandfather."
Before we drove to my house, we stopped at Lilian's so that she could pack some clothes. She also wanted to leave a note for her grandfather.
"Okay we need to make another stop. At the castle?" Lilian sucked in a breath when she heard this. "Don't worry, wait here. I'll go in. I need to talk to the young prince, it won't be long. Promise." Lilian meekly nodded. She hugged herself and looked at her lap. Fear took over her as we neared the castle gates.
When we stopped at the entrance, I quickly got out to look for the little brat. The guards never stopped me because they knew who I was always with. I took the opportunity to run towards his chambers.
Luckily for me, he met me halfway, on the steps.
"Tim." I breathe out like a dying old man. The brat just stood there and observed my panting.
"You're only twenty you know. That's pretty young for a human." He said with a hint of disappointment.
"Oh, shut up." I wheezed out. f**k the stairs.
"What is it now human?"
"India." I breathe out. Why was I so out of shape? I mean I thought I was pretty fit.
"What about her?"
"She's gone! She's missing. I need to know if you've seen her. She's been gone for more than ten days Tim!"
"Really? I didn't notice. Busy with my studies and all." He said casually.
"Would you stop being a brat for once and help me?! I really need you to tell me if you've heard from her." I glared at him. He looked at me for a long time and shrugged.
"She's fine."
"You know where she is?!!"
"She took off with her horse the other day. Gone for a solo trip." He crossed his arms over his chest and stared at me.
"What? India? She would have told me about that!"
"Guess she didn't think she had to." He stared at me.
"Are you angry with me? What did I do? Deliver letters without you for a few days? Is that it? I had to deal with some stuff and I thought you'd understand." I ranted to the brat who stood before me. Since he stood a few steps higher, I had to look up at him.
I knew damn well he liked that.
"I do understand human. Who said I didn't? India is fine. Now leave. Wouldn't want to keep your lady waiting." She said with a hint of bitterness.
I scoffed at his childish attitude.
"Thank you for that information about India. I'm glad she's okay. I'm also glad that you're doing well in your studies Tim." I didn't feel like arguing with him.
He looked at me but said nothing.
"Anyways, I'm going to take a few days off. I hope that would be alright with you. You can concentrate on your studies more."
"Where are you going? To get married already?" He jeered at me.
"I don't know what's your problem with that woman! You don't know her! Why not meet her and then decide if you really hate her that much!" I threw my hands up in exasperation. What's with him?
"For your information, I'm not running off to get married you dumb vamp! I'm just taking a few days off then I'll be back to continue working for you and your brother. So bye, for now." The moment I turned my back, Tim disappeared in a flash.
I closed my eyes and massaged my temples. Gosh this kid was something else.
~~~~~~~~~~
That night.
"I'll make some tea." I said to Lilian as she sat on the chair in the kitchen.
"Kyle that's way too much tea leaves. Let me make the tea for us." She stopped me from putting the fifth spoon filled with tea leaves into the small pot.
She laughed and proceeded to tease me. Damn, it has been long since I heard her laugh.
Minutes later, we sat down and drank our tea. We sat in a comfortable silence until we decided to get ready for bed.
Since Lilian already took her bath, she lied down on my bed while I decided to bathe.
When I was done, I changed and walked into my bedroom. My movements came to a halt upon seeing Lilian laying on my bed with her thin nightgown. Her blonde hair, which looked more golden under the moonlight, was freed. Her soft curls, due to the constant braiding, rested in waves across the pillow.
"Kyle?" I was snapped out of my daze the moment my name was called out.
"Huh?"
"Aren't you going to lay down?" I tilted my head and stared at her.
"You want me to lay down beside you?"
"Of course. This is your bed. I would have slept on the couch but it was too small." She smiled sheepishly. I laughed at the way she explained herself.
"Only if you don't mind, Miss Vidarr." I said before laying beside her.
"I missed you Kyle. So much."
"I did too. You look tired as hell Lilian. Is there anything I can do for you? To make it easier for you to sleep?" She looked deep into my eyes and slowly nodded.
I leaned in and asked her what she wanted. I was desperate to help her in any wa-
"Kiss me."
Huh?
I stared at her as she said those two simple words.
"Kiss me Kyle." She said with a little more urge. Not wanting her to ask pleadingly, I leaned towards her and captured her lips with mine.
She tasted so sweet and delightful. Her warm mouth greeted mine pleasantly. We deepened the kiss just as I felt Lilian's fingers running through my hair. I held her waist and pulled her close to me until our bodies were pressed together.
After a wonderful moment, Lilian lightly pushed me away so that we could catch our breaths.
"We won't be able to stop if we continue." She breathe out. Her lips were now slightly red. She was flushed and damn she looked hot.
"I don't think we would want to stop." I said quickly. She looked at me and smiled softly.
Lilian's POV
I caressed his cheek and Kyle dozed off. He had one arm resting on my waist and he slept like a baby. He looked so adorable.
Oh, Lilian stop being a perv.
I couldn't help it. I looked at his sleeping face as my eyelids began to droop. Just as I began to doze off, those vile beasts invaded my mind like poison that could rot me from the inside. Before I knew it, I was thrown into my personal hell hole. There was no way out now. I was standing in a dark room with no doors or windows. No openings.
Reaching for every ounce of strength I had left, I willed my mind to go to a happy place. Maybe one of my few joyful memories. The more I willed myself to do it, the darker the room became. And the noises those creatures made became louder. They corrupted my every good thought. I tried my best to push these dark visuals behind my mind and force myself to sleep but it was no use. I felt like I was on the verge of getting a panic attack. So, I held Kyle's hand tightly and tried to relax myself. I had to get a hold of myself before something worse could happen.
A few moments later, the fast throbbing of my heart eventually settled into slow, even beats. My eyes slowly closed and I felt myself drifting off.
There they were again, waiting for me. The moment I was about to fall asleep, those monsters returned and they were almost right in front of me. The dark, lethal snakes made goosebumps appear on my skin. My blood ran cold knowing what was to come next.
More monsters.
I wept when I saw the walls cave in. Only, the walls were no longer smooth. They were covered with spiders, worms, cockroaches and leeches. My body shook uncontrollably as I tried to stay still. I just wanted to get out and I knew I would do anything to make them go away.
My body shot up from bed as I gasped. My trembling body slowly backed away from Kyle's peaceful one. The visions were so realistic that I thought the monsters were before me.
Spiders.
Snakes.
They were crawling on the bed. Dozens of them. All over the sheets and my pillow.
I abruptly got out of bed and looked towards Kyle. The air left my lungs while I felt beads of sweat starting to form on my forehead. My skin was so cold and damp with sweat. I wanted to scream and run away but I knew those actions will not help me.
What was happening to me?! I was okay! I am okay! I am alright! I'm perfectly well! Why is this happening?! What did I do?
Not wanting to lose the bit of self control I had left, I walked out of the room and into the kitchen. Sitting on the chair, I rested my head on the wooden table and cried. This happened every night and every time I tried to sleep.
I don't know how my mind created that deadly hell hole but it was there, always waiting for me.
If I at least knew what was happening to me, I would be strong enough to face it. The problem was I didn't know what was happening. And I refused to believe that I was crazy.
Kyle's POV
I woke up to the smell of something cooking. My stomach grumbled on accord with the amazing aroma.
I jumped out of bed and quickly bathe myself and brushed my teeth. After getting ready, I ran to the kitchen to see Lilian preparing the table. It was truly a lovely sight. She easily moved around my small kitchen. Her short sleeved black knee length dress with white floral prints flowed along with her movements. Her lovely hair was tied up in a messy bun. How I wish I could wake up to this every single morning. And maybe on certain days, I could wake up before her and prepare breakfast for us.
My thoughts came to a halt when I realized I was just standing there fantasizing about things. Like a weirdo.
"Whoa, you're up early." I greeted her.
"Come on, eat up. It's a simple breakfast though." She smiled at me.
Lilian prepared garlic bread, soup and some sausages.
"I bought some stuff from the market." She explained.
"Hey you didn't have to."
"I know but I wanted to. So eat up." She sat down and poured us some tea.
I looked up at Lilian and noticed her eyes were slightly swollen.
She didn't sleep. Did she cry?
"You didn't sleep. At all." I said softly.
"What? Um-"
"Don't try to lie." I said sternly.
"I'm not trying to lie. You're right. I couldn't sleep." She looked at her plate not knowing what else to say.
"The visions. They're back?" She only nodded and took a sip of her tea.
I comforted her, saying everything was going to be okay. All the while, I knew what I had to do. I had to take Lilian away from here. This environment wasn't doing her any good.
"I'm going to meet the king today. I'll be back by lunch time. You stay here and don't do anything dangerous. I'm leaving Selene here to keep an eye on you." I said to Lilian. She meekly nodded and glanced over at Selene through the open window.
"She seems nice."
"Yeah she is. Give her some apples and she'll love you Lilian."
Once we had our breakfast, I quickly prepared Sorin and we rode to the castle. I needed to take a few days off and only the king could grant me that.
~~~~~
At the Castle.
I knocked on the king's door and waited until he said come in. See? I learn fast.
When he said 'come in,' his voice wasn't pleasant.
He was annoyed. Again. Great.
The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was the shitload of paperwork on Zenas' table. He was wearing a black t-shirt and fitting black jeans. A stylish dark green coat was worn over his t-shirt and his outfit went along with a pair of shiny high ankle boots. The king's red hair was slightly messy. I didn't know if it was his style or that he was beyond worked up.
Definitely beyond worked up. Who even likes paperwork?
~~~
"You're going for a week?" He suddenly asked me while he walked over to the book shelf.
"I hope that's okay Your Majesty. I need to take care of someone."
He grunted and walked back to his desk after grabbing a book. He then signed the letter and gave it to me.
"Take as many days as you want. This seems important." He said after a while. I looked at him in surprise then I looked at the letter and then at the king again.
"As many days as I want? Really Your Majesty?"
"Call it gratitude for your hard work Kyle. Now go before I change my mind about this." I smiled widely and thanked him before I skipped out of the castle. I even smiled at the guards on my way out. They looked at me weirdly but I didn't give a f**k.
This is the best day ever.
"Now, just two more stops Sorin." I muttered to my horse and left the castle grounds.
~~~~~~~~~
"Kyle? You're back early." Lilian greeted me as I jumped off Sorin.
"Yeah and I have some big news so don't get too shocked.
"Okay?" Lilian said nervously.
"We're going away for a few days. Away from Red Kingdom."
"Wh....what? W..when did you decide this?" She asked shocked. What did I just tell her?
"This morning." I answered casually. "You need a new environment. I really think that would help."
Lilian simply scoffed at me.
"Kyle. Where will we go? Where will we live? How long are we going? Do you know I've never left Red Kingdom Village? Like ever? This sounds very unlikely."
"Lilian," I held her shoulders. "Look at me." She looked up at me.
"Do you like me?" I asked her nervously. She looked at me then placed her hand on my cheek.
"Kyle I think I more than like you." She whispered shyly.
"Great I love you too." I blurted out. I could feel my face warming up and by the look Lilian was giving me, I knew I was red.
Before I could hide my face, Lilian crushed me in a hug.
"I think I love you too." She whispered against my chest.
This day couldn't get any better. Everything was f*****g perfect. Lilian loves me!!
"So here's the plan." I calmed myself and got serious.
We were now seated in my living room and Lilian was giving me her undivided attention.
"We're going to Silver Heights."
"What?!!" She yelled. "That's really f*****g far Kyle. Where-"
"Can you calm down?! Damn. It's not that far for me Lilian. It's the closest kingdom to Red Kingdom you know. I know you're scared about leaving this place but there's a big world out there. And you'll love it."
"Really? This is all too much to take. Silver Heights?" She looked at me with her big grey eyes. They were filled with wonder and a hint of excitement. "Whoaa, I've only read about such places."
"Now you'll see it for yourself."
"Where are we going to stay?" She became serious all of a sudden. "What about the money? I don't know about this. I don't know about leaving."
"I have a sister there. We'll stay with her. And don't worry about the money. We'll pack food for the journey and since we're staying with my dear sister, the expenses won't be so much."
"You have a sister in Silver Heights?! Where does the rest of your siblings live." She was all wide eyed again.
Hmmm. This was going to be tricky.
"Ehh here and there. No I'm not kidding." I muttered.
"That's amazing!"
"Really?"
"We're really going to Silver Heights? Some place other than Red Kingdom Village?" Although she was hesitant to go, Lilian still gushed like a child. I've never seen her this excited.
"Yes my dear Lilian. We're going first thing in the morning. Right before dawn."
She squealed and then stopped abruptly. Like a robot.
"My grandfather...."
"Already spoke to him on my way back. He knows."
That's how I received a deep, passionate kiss from Lilian.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Kyle's POV
"Kyle look at these fields! They're so vast it's like they go on forever!" Lilian giggled like a schoolgirl while she pointed at every little thing within our eyesight.
"So many wild horses, so many trees," she sighed half an hour later. I couldn't help but smile at her wonder. She was a newborn looking at the world for the first time.
"I've never seen these kind of birds in our village. They're so colourful." She mumbled as she spotted a few birds on the way. I was glad it was a sunny day because Lilian was able to really enjoy the view. From the clear blue skies to the forests, to the green pastures, to the fields and valleys.
She didn't sleep a wink even when we stopped to rest. She would stay awake wide eyed, like she didn't want to miss a single detail of our small trip. She would stay awake and keep the horses company. Feeding them and making sure they were okay. And when that was done, she would take care of me and make sure I was well rested.
We had stopped near an open area on the way to Silver Heights. It was close to a wild forest and there was a stream too. India was the one who showed me this path. She said it was the safest routh to the huge mansion, which has recently turned into more of a big castle.
After a long, peaceful nap on the comfortable grass, I groggily woke up to see Lilian sitting on a rock with her feet swinging in the cold water. Once she noticed I was awake, she told me to help myself with the sandwiches she had prepared for us.
"I love you." I mumbled and went back to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Who the hell was knocking?!
I swiftly scrambled into an awkward sitting position and gasped when I saw Lilian staring at me from an opening.
Huh??
"Wake up already." She whispered harshly.
"Huh? Where are we? What...what's happening?"
"You were in such a deep sleep so I took your map-"
"Are we moving?!" I shrieked and tried to stand. That was a huge mistake because my head hit something hard, making me fall down again.
"Don't panic. We've only been on the move for fifteen minutes." She said while she urged the horses to move forward.
"How are you driving this thing?!"
"It's a straight path so far Kyle." She said deadpanned. Ahh, that explains it. Plus, Sorin and Selene have journeyed to Silver Heights before.
Wait a minute.
"How did I get inside the carriage?!"
"Kyle you really need to stop shouting. What if you attract trouble?"
Pffftt, she doesn't know me.
But I had to be careful now. Tim wasn't here to save my ass if anything were to happen.
"Answer me Lilian. How am I here?"
"You were in a deep slumber. I tried waking you up but you refused then I told you to get inside the carriage. You started mumbling while trying to stand up. It was so funny. Then you ordered me to help you inside the carriage so that's exactly what I did." She giggled at my dumbfounded expression.
"How long more Kyle? I can't wait to get there? I can't wait to visit another village. I bet it's every bit as beautiful as I imagined it to be. I know it will be. Especially when the kingdom is ruled my the most powerful fae. I hear amazing stories about that place and how so much had changed since Lord Marcus." She gushed.
Crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap.
I wonder if Lilian will kill me when she finds out we're not staying in any random house. Or anywhere near a village.
"Um Lilian?"
"Yeah?" She looked back at me with a wide smile on her face.
"Keep an open mind. Things don't always turn out the way you expect them to."
"How so?" She tilted her head to the side. I sighed not knowing what to say or how I could explain it.
"You'll see."
A moment later I stopped the carriage and got to the front, beside her. She handed me the horsewhip while she took out the map.
"We'll be there soon." She said excitedly.
Oh boy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silver Heights (That Evening)
We changed direction and drove along the path leading to Silver Heights. We would soon come across villages and neighbourhoods, townhouses and whatnot before reaching the castle.
"Kyle! Why did you tell me not to get excited?! This is beautiful!" Lilian was so f*****g excited that Sorin grunted at her. I think he might have told her to shut up.
"Sorin."
I admonished him but earned another grunt. From both of them.
The truth is I couldn't blame Lilian. For someone who has never left Red Kingdom Village all their life, this must be a place straight out of a fantasy book. Now, add in every transformation made by the queen. Because of her, mother nature thrived in these lands. There was greenery everywhere we looked. The trees gave shelter to the houses here. Every type of flowering plant was blooming and flourishing throughout the land.
I couldn't wait till Lilian saw crops and the vegetation which prospered. Even the animals and all the creatures were happy.
Before some of them are used for their meat of course.
Lilian looked up to see the Sun glowing in the distance. The bright orange ball of fire shed its beautiful hues across the kingdom. Her grey eyes were brighter due to the rays of the Sun.
This place was magical and Lilian could squeal all she wants.
"Kyle......I never imagined..."
"I know." I smiled at her.
"I can't find the words....and I'm a teacher." I laughed at her big doe eyes which were filled with awe.
