Elias leaned in closer to Mattew and lowered his voice so that only he could hear him. “Mattew, listen carefully,” he whispered. “That man over there, Ethan Blackwood, is the most powerful man in this city. He has strong connections everywhere, and if you want to survive here, you will have to deal with him at some point.”
Mattew kept his expression calm and unreadable. He already knew Ethan very well, but he allowed Elias to continue speaking.
“I don’t know what Mr. Reginald did to you,” Elias went on, “but whatever it is, try your best not to cross Ethan Blackwood. And no matter what happens, don’t be disrespectful to him or to Magnus, his personal bodyguard. Magnus is just as dangerous as he is.”
Before Elias could say anything else, a low chuckle interrupted him.
