Mattew let out a slow breath and ran a hand through his hair, as if trying to clear his thoughts. When he finally turned toward Delilah, his voice came out low and steady, but distant. “You shouldn’t waste your time on me,” he said plainly. Delilah blinked, clearly caught off guard. “What did you just say?” Mattew’s jaw tightened.
