Mattew returned to his duties that morning and kept working through the day until evening slowly settled in. Just as he was preparing to leave, his phone rang. It was the manager.
“Madam Vale is heading out,” the manager said quickly. “You are going with her.”
Before Mattew could respond, he heard footsteps approaching behind him. He turned and saw her stepping out of the building. She was surrounded by two guards who moved with sharp discipline. However, before they could follow her further, Madam Vale raised her hand and stopped them.
“You can leave us,” she said calmly. “I will be safe with Mattew.”
The guards exchanged uneasy looks. One of them hesitated before handing Mattew the car keys, his grip lingering for a moment as though he was unsure about the decision.
“Can you drive?”
