“There’s no escape for you now, Mattew,” Carter said, his voice dripping with disdain. He took a slow step forward and folded his arms as if he already knew how this would end. “You’re surrounded. I hope you didn’t think I would let you walk away after humiliating me last time.”
I let out a quiet breath and rolled my shoulders, feeling the tension settle into place as I studied the men around me one after another. There were four of them in front, standing stiff and ready, like they had already decided how they wanted this to end. I shifted my gaze back to Carter for a moment, then returned my attention to the men who looked prepared to carry out his order without hesitation.
