Guests mingled in the library, the living room, and the grand foyer of the estate as waiters in white shirts and bow ties carried trays of hors d’oeuvre and glasses filled with champagne. His mother had outdone herself this year, and the house was decorated in all manner of Christmas glory. Christmas lights stretched up the entire long driveway to the estate.
