Chapter 30: Fateful Reunion

449 Words
Gene’s heart leapt into his throat! His first instinct was to hide, but glancing at the two conspicuous “marks” beside him, he knew hiding was pointless. Soon, five fast horses thundered toward him. The riders were none other than the same bandits who had previously hunted him! They clearly saw Gene—and the two terrifying zombies at his side. “There he is! That kid’s still alive!” “Damn! Those two ghost things… why are they still here?!” The bandits shouted in alarm, reining in their horses and cautiously circling at a distance. “What’s there to fear! Master Feng said: ‘Bring him alive, or bring back his corpse! Capture him and you’ll be richly rewarded!’” a bandit leader barked, trying to rally his men. “Boss… those zombies are impervious to blades and spears!” one underling said, fear flashing in his eyes. “Use lassos! Attack from a distance! Don’t let them get close!” the leader commanded. The bandits quickly drew out lassos and throwing knives, edging closer toward Gene and the zombies. Gene gripped his longsword tightly, leaning against a massive boulder. Deep down, he knew today would be no ordinary fight. He glanced at the two zombies; they seemed enraged by the bandits’ hostility, letting out low, guttural growls as they leapt toward the approaching foes. Just as the tension reached its breaking point— “Shriek—!” A piercing, high-pitched cry suddenly rang out from the sky! Everyone instinctively looked up. A magnificent eagle, its wings shimmering with a faint azure glow, was descending in a majestic dive! On its back, a lone figure stood tall, the robes flapping dramatically in the wind! Feng Tianyu. He had returned—personally coming after him! The giant eagle folded its wings and landed gracefully. Feng Tianyu’s icy gaze swept across the scene. First, he glanced at the two zombies, frowning slightly, then locked onto Gene crouched by the boulder. “Heh,” he let out a cold, mocking laugh, his tone like a cat toying with a mouse. “Persistent little ghost, aren’t you? Seems my last lesson wasn’t thorough enough.” He ignored the bandits entirely, stepping forward toward Gene. A powerful aura radiated from him, pressing down so heavily that the bandits struggled to breathe and instinctively retreated. Gene’s face drained of color. His old wounds throbbed painfully as he realized: this time, there would be no luck, no miraculous escape. Feng Tianyu stopped just five paces away from him, slowly raising a hand. The palm glowed faintly as spiritual energy coalesced around it. “This time… no one will come to interrupt.”
