Chapter 4
"I can save him!"
My voice cut through the screams and the panic in the courtroom. I dragged my heavy silver chains across the marble floor, stumbling toward the center of the room. "I know how to break the curse! Let me touch him!"
"Guards, kill her!" Raiden roared, his face twisting with sudden panic. He stepped in front of me, trying to block my path. "She is a traitor using this distraction to escape! Execute her right now!"
"Yes! She is trying to poison the prince!" Zaria screamed from the crowd, her hands shaking as she pointed at me. "Don't let that filthy omega near the royal family!"
Two big guards immediately drew their swords, moving toward me with cold eyes.
"Step back!" King Alaric’s voice boomed like thunder. The pure power in his voice hit the guards, forcing them to freeze in their tracks. He didn't look at Raiden or Zaria. His dark, desperate eyes locked onto mine. He was kneeling on the floor, holding his dying son, whose skin was turning darker by the second.
Alaric looked at the royal doctors, who were all shaking. "Can any of you save him?" he demanded, his voice dangerously low.
"There... there is no time, Your Majesty," the head doctor whimpered. "The curse has reached his heart. He has less than two minutes."
Alaric looked back at me. He stood up, his tall, massive frame casting a giant shadow over me. He walked down the steps until he was right in front of me. The air grew so thick with his Alpha aura that it felt like my lungs were being crushed.
"If you are lying to me, omega, I will not just execute you," Alaric whispered, his eyes flashing a bright, demonic red. "I will tear your soul apart myself. What is your price?"
"My life," I said, looking him straight in the eyes, refusing to back down. "If I save your son, you will cancel my execution. You will grant me a royal divorce from Raiden right here, right now, and you will give me absolute protection from his pack forever."
"Done," Alaric barked without a single second of hesitation. "Save my son. Now."
I didn't waste a single heartbeat. I crawled over to the little prince's limp body. Raiden and Zaria watched me, their faces completely pale, their breath hitched in terror. They knew that if I succeeded, their entire plan to destroy me would ruin them instead.
I looked down at the little boy. The purple veins of the curse were creeping up his cheeks. My inner wolf screamed at me to hurry.
Because of my mother’s background, I had spent my childhood learning about hidden, rare poisons and old pack curses from the women who lived on the streets—things the high-society royal doctors never bothered to study. The Dark-Blood Curse required a rare antidote, but it also required something else: the blood of a pure, uncorrupted omega wolf who had never willingly given her heart away.
I grabbed a sharp edge of the broken glass vial Raiden had used on me earlier, which was still resting on a nearby table. I sliced the palm of my own hand open. Red blood pooled in my hand, catching the light.
I leaned over the prince, parted his small lips, and let my blood drip directly into his mouth.
"What is she doing? She is defiling the royal bloodline!" an old elder in the gallery shouted in disgust.
"Silence!" Alaric growled, his eyes fixed on his son.
For three agonizing seconds, nothing happened. The little boy remained completely still, and my heart slammed against my ribs. Raiden let out a small, relieved sigh, a smug smile starting to form on his lips.
But then, the prince's body suddenly gasped.
A loud, deep breath rushed into the boy's lungs. Right before everyone's eyes, the dark purple veins on his skin began to fade, melting away back into his normal, healthy pale complexion. The heavy, dark energy suffocating the room vanished.
The little boy's eyelids fluttered, and he opened his eyes. They were a bright, clear golden color.
The courtroom went completely dead silent. The doctors gasped in absolute disbelief, dropping their heads to the floor.
The little prince sat up, looking around the massive room. His eyes bypassed his father, bypassed the guards, and landed directly on me. He looked at my bleeding hand, then looked at my face.
Before anyone could say a word, the boy scrambled forward. He threw his small arms around my neck, burying his face into my dirty, bruised shoulder. He held onto me with incredible strength, his small body shaking.
"It’s you… you… you are real!" the prince whispered loudly, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom.
