After we stopped laughing, we sat together on the loveseat at the window, lost in the sight of the hills. Until I remembered…
“Umm Mr Maxwell…” I said coyly.
Conlan’s eyes blackened “Ye need to stop calling me that, wee birdie.” He growled. “At least until the New Moon has been and gone.” He kissed my neck.
“Noted.” I winked. I would keep that in my back pocket until I wanted to torment him. “Anyway, I seem to remember the offer of dinner…?”
“Aye, the stuff is back at mine.” He huffed. “I’ll go fetch it, don’t ye be going anywhere.” He kissed my temple and scooted me off his lap. He strode to the door as I watched him, unable to tear my eyes from the sight of his tight ass in those jeans. His hand on the door handle, he turned to look at me before leaving. “Soon, Mo Leannan” and with that, he went and closed the door behind him.
“Miss you already” I whispered to myself. What a loser, Autumn… Embarrassed by my confession, I got up and busied myself on my laptop, answering the questions that came in while I was with Conlan. The board had put a meeting in for 9AM tomorrow, where the CEO would be in attendance. “Oh wonderful…” a sigh fell from my lips as I clicked “Accept Meeting” and logged off for the night. Looking down at my outfit, I decided this would not do for a date with my Werewolf King.
I quickly ran upstairs and turned on the shower, letting it heat up while I picked out a new outfit to wear for dinner. I decided on a white and blue floral midi dress with a plunging neckline and Bardot sleeves, and some white leather sandals. After freshening up in the shower, I dried off, then wrapped the towel around my chest to do my hair. I French-plaited it back along my scalp and tied it off, with the ends falling in loose waves around my shoulders. I wondered what was taking him so long? Making the most of it, I grabbed my makeup bag, putting on a light layer of foundation, mascara and a little winged eyeliner, finishing the look with a little clear gloss. I loved doing my makeup but I knew I didn’t have much time for a full face. I heard his truck crunch on the gravel outside so throwing on my dress and sandals, I skipped down to meet him at the door.
He didn’t knock this time, opening the door wide with one hand and a bag of ingredients in the other. When he caught sight of me, he almost dropped the shopping bag. “Here let me take that your majesty.” I teased, trying to take the bag from him. He pulled it back and used his other arm to lift me up over his shoulder, kicking the door closed with his foot.
“Conlan!” I screamed, half terrified, half delighted. I heard a slight chuckle come from his chest as he sat both me and the bag down on the counter.
“What are ye trying to do to me.” His dark eyes gazing into the depths of my soul. “You look beautiful, Autumn”. He twirled a curl of my hair round his finger.
“You don’t look so bad yourself.” He had changed into a royal blue polo shirt, buttoned all the way up, the tight sleeves hugging his protruding biceps, teamed with black jeans and black worker boots. I couldn’t help notice his scent either. I inhaled deeply. Everything about him, I could just drink him in. “Your smell…” I said, unsure why.
He raised his eyebrows at my remark. “What, don’t ye like it?” He said, concern in his now blue-green eyes. His dark beard and blue polo shirt made the blue in his eyes pop.
“You smell like…” I was struggling to put my finger on it. “Like fresh pine and cedar. Like a forest” running my hand up his arm, gently squeezing his bicep. “I can’t get enough.”
And with that, he closed in for a kiss. As always, gently at first and then rougher and more passionate. He was already standing between my legs, so I wiggled further into him and could feel him at my core. He stroked up my leg, from my knee to my thigh until he was rubbing his finger on the outside of my underwear making me gasp. He clearly approved of the lace and he let out a growl that seemed to come from his toes. “What I wouldn’t give away to rip these off with my teeth.” He moaned against my lips.
“Well you better get those hands busy with something else before I fade away from hunger.” I smirked. He whisked me off of the counter and shooed me out of the kitchen.
“I need peace to cook, wee birdie. Go and sit yerself down.”
“Oh aren’t we bossy!” I said, but I secretly loved his directness. His display of dominance really did something to my insides that I just couldn’t explain. I reached into the fridge to get the wine, grabbing some glasses from the cupboard and pouring us one each. We sat in a comfortable silence, the only sounds being the chopping and boiling and sizzling from the cooking. I sipped away as I watched him in the kitchen, it smelled delicious. Some 30 minutes later it was ready and I couldn’t wait to dive in. A large ribeye steak, homemade chips, peppercorn sauce and garlic butter greenbeans. It looked and smelled incredible.
“Hope ye like it…” he looked nervous. For such a confident Alpha male, he seemed to put a lot of value on my opinion.
“Conlan this is amazing.” I drooled covering my mouth, as I spoke with my mouth full. “No one has ever cooked for me before.” And it was true, meals out and takeaway food yes, but never a homemade meal, not since I was a teenager. He visibly relaxed. “Who taught you?” I asked.
“My Auntie.” He said proudly. “She raised me. My parents were killed when I was really young, so my auntie and uncle moved here and took my sister and I in.”
This is what I was waiting for. For Conlan to open up, to learn all about him. “I’m so sorry about your parents.” I said sincerely, reaching out for his hand and giving it a squeeze.
“Thanks.” He said shyly.
“Well Mr Maxwell, I’d love for you tell me all about your sister? And your auntie and uncle?” We sat there chatting for another hour. He told me all about his sister, Catherine (Catie for short). She was his younger sister and somewhat of a rogue. Their parents lineage consisted of fierce warriors and rebels and they had both inherited that spirit from them. Catie had found her Mate when she was 16 and she is pregnant with her 2nd child. His eyes seemed to brighten when he spoke of his family. Then he came to his Auntie.
“I believe you’ve met her.” He said casually, trying to stifle his laugh.
“Of course Sadie is your Auntie.” I mocked a smack to the forehead with my open hand. “And you uncle?”
“I believe you’ve met him as well. He ran my landscaping business before me.” He ate his last mouthful of steak.
“Aww Bruce! Such a sweet guy. I can see how you turned out so chivalrous.” I batted my eyelashes at him.
“They are wonderful people.” He beamed. I could listen to him speak all night long. Learning about his past, his family, what makes him tick. This is what would make me fall in love with this man.
