“You know the answer to that Denise, hell no I’m not, I’m never ready for these things.“ Selina replied again, this time rolling her eyes. She had stopped what she went there to do for a minute while talking to her friend on the phone.

“I’m really sorry for dragging you into all this, but look on the bright side, you get to make over 200,000 altogether, just from helping me out.” jenise said again, teasing her friend.

“Yeah sure, I’m glad you know this is because of the money and not because I care about you” Selina replied sarcastically, shaking her head.

“I know you love me Selina, thank you so much” jenise said, laughing weirdly like a cartoon character.

“I need a dress, Jenice, I can’t wear anything that I have, you know my style.” Selina said, changing the topic back to why she called.

“Would have been nice to go with the real you to instigate horror, but it’s a Fancy restaurant so you would have to obey the rules to get inside.” jenise said laughing.

Selina had questionable fashion sense and jenise always mocked her for it.

“Ha ha very funny, well then get me a dress and maybe some of those little hills y’all wear” Selina asked

“Yes true, you need hills”

”Well I don’t want them too high ok, I’m already so tall enough, I don’t want to go looking like I’m doing too much.” Selina said. She was not a fan of heels, so she never had to wear any to go anywhere.

“Ok boss, I’ll get you something that fits perfectly” jenise replied still munching on her food like a child

“Can you eat in silence please?” Selina asked, irked by the sound she was hearing.

“You don’t get to shout at me like that woman, I’m paying you a lot of money” jenise teased in her own weird accent, making both of them laugh.

They were so perfect together as they both understood each other very well and hardly had to fight about anything.

“Alright I’ll just go tell mum and dad that I’ll be crashing at your place tonight” Selina said looking round the kitchen as she remembered what she came for.

“Ok That's perfect, I’ll have them bring in some clothes and shoes so you can pick something out yourself.” jenise said before cutting the call.

She dropped her phone and headed for the coffee machine, brewing three cups of coffee, before placing them in a tray, and heading out of the kitchen.

“Hey !Dad, good morning” Selina said, moving close to her dad with the tray in her hands.

”Hello darling, I heard you on the phone?” Thomas said, placing the book he was reading on the table. Thomas was always up early and he had so much fun reading books while drinking coffee, before preparing for the restaurant.

“Yes I was just talking to Jenice, she needs me to come help her with stuff today, so I’ll be going to hers after work” Selina replied, handing him a glass from the tray and placing the rest on the table.

“Are you staying over?” Thomas asked again, taking a sip from his coffee

“Yes I think I will be” she replied smiling, taking a sip also from her cup.

Morning coffee with her parents was the best time of Selina’s day so she always tried not to miss it, even on weekdays.

“Just the way I like it, thank you darling.” Thomas said, taking another sip.

“Your mother is still asleep, she must have been really tired from yesterday.” He added, picking up his book to continue reading.

“Yesterday, what happened yesterday?” Selina asked a little but confused

“We had a lot of contract workers at the restaurant yesterday so it was a little busier than usual” Thomas replied, making Selina relieved a bit.

She hated when her parents suffered so it relieved her a bit to hear that they sold a lot and was tired because of it.

“Oh that’s good, she really must be tired then, I’ll just go see how she's doing,” Selina said, getting up from where she was seated and picking up her mother’s cup of coffee before making her way to their room.

“Try not to wake her up if she’s still fast asleep ok?” Thomas said, because he knew just how much she needed sleep.

She pushed the door which was already open and entered, seeing that her mum was already awake and seated up.

“Hey mum you’re awake, I made you coffee, your favorite” she said going closer to her mum and stretching out a cup to her”

“You don’t have to work dear?“ Beatrice asked, taking a sip from her coffee.

“I do mum, I’ll leave in thirty minutes. Do you want anything to eat before I leave?“ Selina asked, trying to be nice a little because her mum was tired.

“No no! my husband would take care of my breakfast, don't stress yourself about it, just don’t be late for work” Beatrice replied, taking another sip from her cup after just bragging in front of her daughter.

“I won’t mom, and for gods sake stop bragging about your husband every time, I get it y’all love each other so much and are each other's soulmate.” Selina was frustrated by her mum.

It’s been years since she had her last relationship and despite her mum’s effort to hook her up with a few people, Selina alway chose work and never seemed to be interested.

“Well if it’s so unbearable for you, go get yourself a husband then, you can’t live with us forever” Beatrice said again, becoming more savage.

“I shouldn’t have woken you up” Selina said, shaking her head and taking another sip from her coffee

“Well you didn’t wake me up silly, I was already awake and thanks for the coffee, it’s tasty.” Beatrice said smiling. She knew exactly what she was doing by tormenting her daughter.

“Ok mum bye, I was worried about you being super tired from yesterday but you look just fine to me, I’ll just go prepare for work now.” Seline said, rolling her eyes at her mother as they both laughed.

“Well I have my husband by my side to ease my pain so you have no need to be worried about me.” Beatrice teased again, She knew better than to make Selina feel comfortable while she was single.

“You know what mum, I blame the coffee, I should have just let your husband make one for you instead” Selina said one last time before shaking her head, leaving the room back up to hers, with her mother laughing from behind.

The day went by so fast and in no time, Selina was already clocking off of work.

She sent out the last piece of documents to her boss and switched off her computer, before picking up her phone and giving Jenice a call

“Are you done for the day?” Jenice asked as soon as she picked the call.

“Unfortunately,” Selina replied, sounding so tired.

“Common I know how much you hate work” Jenice said, rolling her eyes in disbelief

“I know I hate work, but I hate blind dates even more,” Selina replied again.

“Selina we have come this far, don’t ruin it” Jenice said, sounding so pitiful on purpose, like Selina could not already tell she was faking it.

It’s not like I really had a choice to begin with” Selina said, resting her head on her desk with her phone on the table.

“Well for what it’s worth, I made us something very delicious for dinner so run along, time’s ticking.” Jenice said, finally getting Selina up on her feet.

“I’m on my way“ she said excitedly, as she immediately got up from her seat and picked up the little bag she brought before exiting the office and hopping into a taxi.

“I’m starving, what did you make?” Selina said as soon as she got to jenise’s house.

I thought about something before you got here, Selina, and I feel like since you are already going out for dinner, it would not help in any way if you eat now before leaving.” jenise said, turning her eyes away from Selina because she knew how offensive what she said was.

“I’ll f*****g lock you up in jail if you mess with me Jenice. I mean I got so busy at work today that I forgot to have lunch, so to avoid eating like an animal on your date, I suggest you let me eat now and calm down a little” Selina said, her eyes seeing red all the way.

“Oh true you should eat, wouldn’t want you behaving like that in front of him” jenice was questioning her gift to remain alive at this moment and Selina was surprisingly cool about it

“Like what Jenice?” She asked, moving closer to her with a look that can kill.

“Oh you’re always like a mad dog when you are hungry,I’m sorry” jenice said, raising her hands to protect herself incase Selina chose to strike.

“I’m happy we both know that jenise, now what the hell did you make for dinner?” She said before moving away from her and into the kitchen.

“Well since you’ll be eating steak for dinner, I made something a little light, enough to fill you for a short time. I made spaghetti and meatballs” Jenice said, following behind her.

“Ok great, that’s great. If I eat now and rest a bit, I’ll have enough strength before the date by Ten” Selina said, smiling as she took out a plate to serve herself

“Alright. Have you called your dad, they both know you are here right?“ she asked, while opening the fridge to get herself a drink.

“Of course they do, they would have been buzzing up my phone by now if they didn’t.” Selina replied, smiling.

“I promise this will be the last of it ok, and just so you know, I’m happy to have you here.” jenise said, sounding weird all of a sudden.

“Yeah weirdo, I heard you the first time, and I know how hard this is for you too. My mum might not be as persuasive as your mum, but she sure is trying to get me married too.” Selina replied, laughing hard as she remembered what had occurred that morning with her mum.
