She decided to order something to eat without waiting to eat with him, which was very awkward especially when it was a date. She was going to be a bit further and more careless today because she knew men hated it.
His attempt to come late for a first date was obviously an act to keep her on her toes, while waiting for his arrival and she knew a little too well already.
She picked up the menu immediately and waited for the waiter to return with her wine, before listing out to him what she wanted to eat.
She was going to order a few things to the table and eat them till he arrived, and he was going to see that she didn’t care whether or not he honored the invitation.
The waiter came back with her complete order in about thirty minutes and the young man still wasn’t anywhere in sight.
She brushed aside the irritating feeling alongside the bottle of wine placed at her side of the table, in order to create enough space to place her freshly made food.
“This smells so good David,” she said, smiling as she reached for the cutleries.
She took a spoon from the amazing soup she had ordered and tasted it, smiling as she savored this feeling before swallowing.
“It tastes amazing too, oh my god” she said smiling at David while giving him a thumbs up.
“Alright enjoy, I’ll be over there if you need me” David said, turning to leave
“Still no news from Mr Jefferson?” Selina asked, trying to suppress her anger.
“He should be on his way now, we just got a call from his secretary few minutes ago, asking to make you comfortable” he replied
“Well I already am comfortable thanks to you David” she said again, smiling at the waiter
“You are most welcome ma, if you need anything please just call for me” David sir one last time and left.
She turned back to her food and continued to eat from it, tasting every dish she ordered one by one.
“I’m so sorry I kept you waiting, I had so much work at the office I could barely bypass them” Jefferson said, moving towards the table in a hurry, before sitting in front of her.
The first thing he noticed was that she was not the same person he saw in the pictures and this genuinely striked his curiosity.
The woman in front of him was not only pretending to be Jenice, but was also very beautiful and breathtaking. He wanted so badly to know the truth about why she was there instead of Jenice, but he decided to play along so as not to scare her away.
“I can see you ordered already, I guess you couldn’t wait for me to get here.” Jefferson said, acting normal.
“The date was scheduled to be by Ten, and you came in here an hour later. Were you expecting me to wait for you without having something to eat? I mean didn’t we come here to eat and then talk?” Selina said, scolding Jefferson. She was genuinely pissed at him for keeping her waiting for an hour, but it also served as her being rude as agreed in her script.
“Well I’m really very sorry for being late, something urgent came up and so I had to fix it.” Jefferson found himself explaining all of a sudden.
“Well that's ok, it’s nice to meet you. I'm Selina, I mean Jenice.” Selina said, almost dropping the bomb on herself.
“I’m Jenice, nice to meet you” she said again, sounding more firm this time.
“Well I’m Jefferson, and it’s nice to meet you too, miss? Jefferson said, teasing her with his words. He already knew she was not Janice, and she also did him a huge Favour by calling out her real name.
“Jenice, I’m pretty sure you know my name already,” Selina said, drowning at him for acting like he could not say her name.
“I’m sorry” Jefferson said again, apologizing for the second time
“What the hell is wrong with you Jefferson, put on your cocky boy pants now” he said to himself, shaking his head and trying to come back to his senses.
He was mesmerized by the beauty in front of him, that he lost composure the ment he saw her.
“So Jenice tell me, what kind of a person are you and I mean sincerely, not what the paparazzi and the press thinks” he asked, looking directly into her eyes
“Well all I can really say is that I like peace so I always try to avoid messy or weird situations. I’m also very specific about my work and family so I really can’t afford to mess up and be like other girls I have to work extra hard.” She said genuinely answering the question.
She also was already losing her composure, seeing that Jefferson was not only handsome, but also very calm too. She saw no reason to act rude towards him and found herself talking calmly.
“I’m sure you graduated from one of the best universities in the world and also have a great job given to you by your father, there shouldn’t be any reason to live so strictly don’t you think, I mean you already have everything you want.” Jefferson said again, asking specific and tricky questions just to mess with her.
“Hmm” she said, stopping her food for a minute, to take a sip from her wine as the questions made her feel uneasy.
“So I heard that you also like traveling?” Jefferson asked again looking at her
“You must have heard quite a lot about me Jefferson” Selina said, looking back at him.
“Yes of course, I needed to know more about the woman that I am being forced to marry.” He replied smiling while signaling for the waiter to come.
”I mean tell me about that, don’t we get the right to make decisions for ourselves? I know you came here late on purpose and I don’t really blame you for it, for I don’t want this marriage either, and I am sure that you feel the same way.” Selina said, looking at him with all seriousness. She really needed them to be on the same page so she could call it a night and take her leave.
“You know we could just go back to our houses, and behave like this was the worst date yet, and make it clear that we hate each other.” She added, looking at Jefferson to see if he was really on the same page with her.
“You must have someone else in mind to make you reject a perfect man like me” Jefferson said, playing more tricks on her.
“Yes she does and she loves him, I mean I do love him a lot but my mum is strongly against it.” Selina said, speaking out of context again.
“She has arranged for me to meet about four men this week and you are the last Hope.” Selina said, rolling her eyes as she said that. Janice was her best friend and she loved her, but her mum was super annoying.
“So if I agree to marry you now, would you have no choice but to go home with me?” Jefferson asked yet another tease question, making Selina frown her face at the that felt like a threat.
“Well It is true that I hated the idea of being here, but that was before I saw your gorgeous face, I mean you look nothing like any woman I’ve seen before, and something about you seems to pull me close” he said, sincerely speaking this time.
He had genuinely fallen for a complete stranger that he knew nothing about, and it confused him a great deal, whether or not to tell her the truth.
“What the hell Jefferson, you can’t say that to me, we have to be on the same page, if we are ever going to have our way. This marriage can not work, it will not work and you are going to make sure of that.“ Selina said, speaking with more authority in her voice. She had to do everything in her power to end it all this night, because it was only going to create more problems if he instigated otherwise.
“Sure sure I understand what you mean. I can’t and will not marry Jenice Johnson anyway, she's not my type.” Jefferson said, still looking into her eyes like he was talking about someone else.
“I am Jenice Johnson, and thank you I guess for not being your type.” Selina said, smiling at her victory. She had successfully turned all five men against her, and there were no further dates in a while, at least not for her anymore.
“Can I order now, David has been standing here for a few minutes now” Jefferson said, smiling at her in an affectionate way, while picking up the menu to order
“Sure you can get what I got, it’s delicious” Selina said, smiling back. Her mission was successful and so all that was left was to sit through the remaining part of dinner, till it was time to go home..
“I’m sure you have good taste, get me whatever she's having.“ Jefferson said, looking at Selina again and smiling.
“God you are very beautiful Selina, and it’s you that I’m going to marry. I’m so glad I came here today.” He said, whispering to himself, and smiling again.
