Chapter 2

199 Words
Margery Louise Allingham (1904–1966) was an English novelist who began writing during the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. She is most remembered for her detective hero, gentleman sleuth Albert Campion. Initially believed to be a parody of Dorothy L. Sayers"s Lord Peter Wimsey, Campion matured over the series into a strongly individual character, part detective and part adventurer, who was featured in 18 novels and many short stories. This volume is considered the 23rd volume of the series (which includes a number of short story collections). Youngman Carter and Margery Allingham Youngman Carter and Margery AllinghamMargery Allingham did not write Mr. Campion’s Farthing, which appeared three years after her death. It was written by artist Youngman Carter (1904-1969). Carter was no stranger to the Campion books—in addition to being Margery Allingham’s husband, he often helped her with the plotting of the stories and even contributed covers for some of them. He finished her final Campion novel, Cargo of Eagles, even though she is credited as the sole author. See the Author’s Note which follows for more information.
