This story is based on an idea originated by my wife, Margery Allingham, who died in 1966.
She and I collaborated on many of her books over a period of forty years, particularly in the working out of details of the plots.
It had been her original intention to write Mr. Campion’s Farthing before her last book Cargo of Eagles, but she changed her mind, largely I think because Cargo involves events which could only have taken place twenty years after the end of the last war.
