Chapter Seven: The Message

291 Words
Not long after, Goodness ended her relationship with Felix. She was honest with him. She cared about him deeply, but something had always been missing, and pretending otherwise would only hurt them both. Felix listened quietly. When she finished, he simply nodded. "I think I knew," he said. It broke his heart. But not as much as staying would have. Days later, he texted Ella. Did you see this coming? Ella answered honestly. I saw something changing. I just didn't know where it would lead. His reply came several minutes later. You're probably the most honest person in all of this. The message stayed with her. For the next few weeks, Ella focused on herself. She worked. She exercised. She reconnected with parts of her life she had neglected. For the first time in years, she wasn't orbiting around anyone else. She was building a life that felt entirely her own. Then Andrew texted. I heard about Goodness and Felix. You okay? The question made her smile. Not because of what it said. Because of what it didn't. No gossip. No assumptions. Just concern. She answered. And somehow the conversation felt different. Closer. More certain. A few days later, she finally met Goodness for coffee. There were apologies. Honest conversations. And the kind of forgiveness that only exists between people who genuinely love each other. Before they left, Goodness looked at her and smiled. "You look different." Ella laughed. "Different how?" Goodness tilted her head. "Like you're finally in your own story." The words stayed with Ella long after they parted. Because for the first time, she thought it might actually be true. What she didn't know was that her story was about to begin in a way she never expected.
