Chapter 20: The Infinite Loop

386 Words
Two years later. College Graduation Day. The "Glitch Hunters" were no longer the most famous couple on the internet—and they liked it that way. They had moved from "Viral Stars" to "Respected Innovators." Aria had started a non-profit for digital rights, and Julian had built an encryption engine that actually worked. As the graduation ceremony at the University ended, a sea of black caps flew into the air. "Aria!" a familiar voice called out. It was the Jazz Band from St. Jude’s—now college students themselves—led by Marcus. They had shown up with their instruments, playing a triumphant, brassy version of the song Aria and Julian had danced to at the Winter Formal. The entire graduating class started to cheer. The "Legend of the Glitch" had followed them to the very end. Julian led Aria away from the crowd, back to the quiet quad where they’d had their first university lunch. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, familiar velvet box. "No more fake elopements," Julian said, his voice thick with emotion. He dropped to one knee. "No more 'Dashboard Tapes' for the fans. Just me and you. Aria Vance, will you marry me and spend the rest of your life breaking the rules by my side?, this is my promise ring to you" Aria didn't wait for him to finish. She tackled him onto the grass, laughing and crying at the same time. "Yes! A thousand times, yes!" As they sat there on the grass, the sun setting behind the campus clock tower, Julian’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw a notification. "1 New Video Uploaded: 'The Proposal (Final Version)'" He looked at the hidden camera he’d set up in the tree earlier. "Habit of a hacker," he shrugged, grinning. Aria leaned in, kissing him deeply as the "Class of the Digital Age" cheered in the distance. "Delete it," she whispered against his lips. "Let's keep this one just for us." Julian smiled, swiped his thumb across the screen, and hit 'Permanent Delete.' The screen went black. The story was over. But for Aria and Julian, the real adventure was just beginning. There was something in the corner, the bushes watching them, that they weren't seeing. Two red eyes, smirking, and vanished.
