Chapter 16: The Golden Couple

375 Words
The week following the Winter Formal was unlike anything St. Jude’s Academy had ever seen. The hierarchy had shifted. The "Cheddar Goth" meme hadn't just died; it had been resurrected as a symbol of being unapologetically yourself. Aria walked through the quad, her head held high, no longer checking her reflection in every glass door to ensure her hair was perfect. She didn't need to be perfect; she was happy. And the school loved her for it. "Morning, Aria!" a group of freshmen chirped, waving frantically. "Is Julian coming to the bake sale later? We made 'Glitch Cupcakes'!" Aria laughed, waving back. "I’ll see if I can drag him away from his servers!" The "elopement" story had become the school’s favorite fairy tale. Everywhere they went, students opened doors for them, cheered when they sat together in the cafeteria, and even the teachers seemed to develop a newfound leniency. But the real magic happened in the quiet moments. In the back of the library, Julian would pull out a single chair for both of them, and Aria would sit on his lap while they studied, his chin resting on her shoulder as he explained the intricacies of blockchain while she corrected the grammar in his lab reports. "You realize," Julian whispered one afternoon, his breath warm against her ear, "that we’ve accidentally created a cult? I saw a guy in the gym wearing a 'Team Glitch' t-shirt today. He wasn't even an athlete." Aria turned in his arms, her eyes sparkling. "It’s not a cult, Julian. It’s a movement. People are tired of the 'perfect' facade. They like that the President fell for the Hacker. It gives them hope. who wouldn't, even I myself was getting tired of trying hard. But am so happy you came into my life ." Julian leaned in, kissing the tip of her nose. "I don't care about the movement. I just like that I don't have to hide in the server room to see you anymore." The bell rang, but for the first time in her life, Aria didn't jump up to be the first one in the hallway. She stayed in his arms for one more minute, soaking in the quiet before the storm of their growing fame.
