The duel still continued even after that incident and everyone tried their best to wipe away that memory and just focus on the match.
The next pair to get up was two guys. Nyxus noticed that one of them was that guy with an ear piercing earlier. He was smiling at his opponent and offered his hand for a shake. With the blow of Tynna's whistle, their duel commenced.
The man from before has a well built physique and is much taller than the other, but it wasn't a hindrance for him. The fire sorcerer attacks first and summons his fire using his staff. He threw it to the taller one, and almost hit him in his feet if he wasn't quick enough to jump.
“Woah you almost got me there” The man drawls while laughing. He reached out from his back and from there, came a dagger. He smiled at his opponent again. “My turn.”
He was fast when he came to attack the guy. He thrust his dagger towards his opponent as he did. The smaller one dodge it while moving backward. With a swift move from his opponent, the man used his feet to jump out at the guy and landed on the fire wielder's back. Pinning him on the ground. The smaller guy immediately made his move and tried wiggling himself away from the other's hold but his opponent was way stronger than him. So to free himself, using his staff, he summoned his fire.
“Hey no fair.” The man who asked about Antheia complained. Making everyone laugh.
The sorcerer summoned a fire that trapped them both inside. The fire was waist length, and enclosed them both. The taller one stood up, freeing his opponent in the process. They were now both smiling, amused at their duel.
The atmosphere has lightened up because of their crazy antics. Even though they're in a duel, and a fire was trapping them. Everyone can't help smile and laugh at them.
The man ran a hand on his hair as he looks at the fire surrounding them. He heaved a sigh and looks at the sorcerer. “Fine, as you wish.”
He hid is dagger back, and out of nowhere, the fire that entrapped them both suddenly crawls on his feet. Leaving everyone shock. It didn't burn him. Instead, the fire continued traveling until it covered both of his hand. The fire sorcerer was looking at him with a surprised eyes. Who would've thought.
Fire versus fire. The taller one raised his hand, the fire that was covering it vanished as it forms a cloud above him. He pointed his hand towards his opponent and the cloud was suddenly coming towards the sorcerer's direction. He tried running away as he shots fireballs after fireballs at his opponent. The sorcerer made a shield as the cloud started raining down fire crystals at him. He attempted to counter it by trapping the cloud inside a massive ball of fire. Devouring it whole before it bursts out into a mist.
Minutes passed and the two still continued to throw attacks after attacks. Everyone felt excitement as they looked at two. They both have equal strength, but Nyxus could feel that one of them is just trying to suppress his real ability. And after almost an hour, Tynna blow her whistle, indicating that their match is over.
Everyone cheered for them. The two men shook hands while exchanging pleasantries.
“Great match”
“Looking forward in seeing you again in the arena”
After that, pairs after pairs got the chance to show off their ability inside the training ground. And before long, it was already Nyxus' turn. She breathe out deeply before she walks to the front. She's one of the last trainees to do the duel. There were fifty of them, 25 pairs in each team. She got pick up as the twentieth contender. Meaning, she, together with her challenger, was the 10th pair to have the duel.
She stared at her opponent. Assessing her and guessing what her ability was. She looks like a human, but she knows she could be wrong. She was not also carrying anything that could prove that she's a sorcerer or an elf. Though going back to that fire yielding sorcerer, Nyxus tried to feel her competitor's aura. Assessing if she's a strong opponent or not. Hm this one's easy.
The girl suddenly disappeared from her sight, although before she could kick her, Nyxus was quick enough to jump and dodge her away. It was obvious that the girl wasn't expecting that, yet she didn't let that affect her. She ran circles around Nyxus, while the latter just stood still and waited for her next move. And before she knows it, Nyxus was being carried up by a tornado. Yep, she's a dwarf.
Not only does the wind sorcerers has the ability to summon a wind and control it, dwarves were also blessed with this kind of magic. Just like how the elves has the ability to heal someone. The dwarves, in addition to their wind and invisibility, they are also responsible for weapon making. While the elves are considered the land's warriors, just like the demi-humans. The halflings specializes in defenses, and potion making. Their king, Xion, was the one responsible for invisible shield that is circled around the whole city of Aroz, protecting them from any harm. While the harpies, just like the elves, they are also in the front line in protecting the whole city in arial position against their enemies. They also have the ability to disguise themselves as humans. While the sorcerers are those humans who got their wielding abilities from their ancestors who got direct blessings from the blessed beings of Parsea.
Right after being pulled up by the tornado, Nyxus raised her right arm and a hue of pale white light appeared from it. Slowly, the tornado vanished and she felt her feet back on the ground. As Nyxus stares at the girl calmly, the girl's eyes were opened wide like she couldn't believe what happened.
When she recovered, she summoned another gust of compressed air towards Nyxus. However, the latter still managed to get out of the way before it hits her. They kept doing that for a long time – The girl using and summoning a wind to attack her, kicking, and punching; even using her disappearing ability. While Nyxus just tried to dodge it, not using any of her abilities except blocking her opponent using her hands, jumping around and backing away. Eventually, everyone grew tired of watching them. Even the dwarf stopped throwing attacks and just slumped down the floor. Looking up at her like she was kind of a joke. She was tired and exhausted. She had used all of her strength, and even her strongest strategy against her but the woman in front of her just seems unfazed. Bored even.
“What are you doing?” Suddenly they heard Chief Tynna's voice. They turned to look at her; Chief Tynna's arms were crossed on her chest while one of her brows was raised. Nyxus turned to look at the girl who was still on the floor. She sighed and offered her hand at her; the girl feeling surprised at the sudden movement.
Nyxus can feel the eyes of everyone on them. Waiting for what's going to happen next. “Get up.”
“Huh?” The girl looked at her incredulously. She stared at her then glanced at her hand
“I said get up.” Nyxus uttered calmly. But the girl was just staring at her and to her stretched hand. Nyxus sighed again. “I won't hurt you, if that's what you're thinking” She breathe out as she can see doubt and hesitation on the girl's face.
“Don't then. Just continue sitting in that filthy ground for all I care” Nyxus was about to pull her hand when the girl suddenly grabbed it and quickly stood up. Nyxus just stared at her after she lets go of her hand. She then leisurely put both her hands in her trouser's pocket and looked back at Chief Tynna who rather looked weirded out by the whole interaction.
Suddenly, Oaksis who was beside the chief master spoke and looked at her.
“I can feel your aura, young lady. It's strong. Not strong enough as the others, but strong enough to defeat your opponent. How come you're not using your ability?” Everyone's eyes were now on her, waiting for her response
“What exactly is your ability?" The chief master asked her. Their match obviously done. Nyxus clicked her tongue. She hates attention, and that's what they're giving her now.
With an annoyed sigh, she looked at them in the eyes and showed them her ability. “I can do this,” Nyxus showed them her raised palm, and from that, a pale hue of white light was illuminated. But unlike this one, nobody saw that light she created earlier that caused the tornado to disappear. Even her duel buddy only thought that her tornado just vanish because it was weak call – even though she knew it was her strongest wind.
The light that illuminated from Nyxus' palm glowed before it abruptly disappeared. Tynna was about to ask her if that's all she could do, when suddenly, one by one, students collapsed and fell unconscious to the ground. And just like that, Nyxus was the only person left standing in that training ground.
That pale light was just one of her weakest ability. But of course, no one knew about that except for her. Knowing that it'll take awhile for her power to subdue its effects on them, Nyxus decided to just sit around and wait for them to wake up from their unexpected slumber. She just hope it won't cause any severe damage on their health.
Oh well, a girl can hope.
