As soon as Jay pressed the brakes of his car, Dean bounded out of the passenger seat. He hastened into his apartment to discover his key chain on the table. Nothing seemed misplaced, except the silence.      “Allie.” He was frantic, racing into her bedroom. The bare mattress pierced his heart. He searched the empty bedroom for clues of his roommate’s whereabouts. Not one item inside the closet.      Mr. Pops greeted him as usual. They had opted for leaving the dog in the apartment as a precaution against the prankster.
