GUIDING LIGHT
KAEL
Ding dong! Ding dong!! Ding dong!!!
The village emergency bell rings loudly.
It's an emergency, and everyone's running helter-skelter.
Kael! Kael!! Kael!!!
I heard my mom—the LunaQueen—call out to me loudly.
I was playing with some kids, my friends, in the small bush behind the palace, when I heard the alarm and my mother's call.
Yes mother! I answered at the top of my voice for her to hear me amidst the chaos unfolding right before us.
I ran towards her and asked for the reason the bell was rung and why everyone was running
Some sorcerers and Wolf hunters are attacking us, she replied to me.
Why are they attacking us?, I asked
Right question, wrong timing, she answered and I got the memo.
What are we going to do?, I questioned further
Our warriors are out there fighting them off. Your father's on his way to join them.
I can help too, I said, making a run to go join the warrior, but my mother caught me with a strong grip on my right arm.
No! You go into the palace and hide in your room right at this moment. She instructed
But I can help. I'm strong enough. I want to help defend our kingdom, I protested.
Child! You should obey your mother and go to your damn room, now!, my father said in his deep baritone which sent shivers down my spine.
Yes, Father, I obeyed with my head down in defeat.
You're only seven years old, boy. You know nothing about battle, and you sure as hell ain't ready to be in one. Go now to your room as your mother has instructed. When you're ready for battle, no one will stop you, he said.
I turned and headed towards the palace.
My father, King and Alpha of EmberFang kingdom, should we call him AlphaKing?.
I think we can call him AlphaKing.
Yeah, let's stick with that.
His name, Jason Burnt Woodstock. And his beautiful wife, Queen and Luna—Marylene Kara Woodstock, both ruled with power, wisdom, empathy, and justice.
My father is 6 '8 feets tall, with dark brown eyes, a long jaw, not too long nose, pink lips, and caramel skin that glistens in the sun.
He's got a thick, well-toned and muscular body, a thick chest, with well-chiseled ten-pack abs.
He's a formidable fighter, both in his human and wolf form.
My father is a very strict Alpha.
The fact that I'm his only son didn't make him pamper me, not to mention overpampering me.
He made me start training as early as age five, even before I could shift.
His reasons were that he couldn't allow me to grow weak as the future King and Alpha of our kingdom.
He always reminds me of the fate and burdens that await me.
He made sure he prepared me for the future, and I didn't blame him for that.
How can I? After all, he's the greatest and most powerful AlphaKing, with lots of enemies and citizens to cater for.
I admire his strength, will, and persistence because it's not easy to have a whole kingdom depend on you.
He made it his life mission to make me as great, strong, and powerful as he is. Possibly, more than him.
“You have to be strong, courageous, persistent, kind, empathetic, and just. Be sagacious in all your doings” he always tells me.
Pheeww!!! It's a lot.
Like I said earlier, my father is a very strict, and it'll be suicide for me, or anyone at that, to try and go against his words and instructions.
Oh, let's not forget about my mother.
The great LunaQueen (Mannnn…., I'm enjoying this word coining of a thing [chuckles])—Marylene Kara Woodstock.
She's got the most beautiful black skin I've ever set my eyes upon.
Her eye colour—amber.
She's got a beautiful face with a breathtaking smile. Her smile? Could thaw Antarctica.
She's 6 ’2 feet tall with an athletic body.
She might look like an angel, but she's a beast on the battlefield.
As strong as she is, she's also caring and protective.
She's my Dad's kryptonite.
She has her ways of taming and calming my dad down when he's mad or about to go wild.
We can call her his anchor.
She taught me a lot about life.
She even taught me how to cook.
Surprised I can cook?. Don't look so shocked.
She will go to any length to see I'm well catered for.
She had difficulty conceiving for many decades due to a curse from a wicked witch.
They (she and my dad) both tried countless ways to try and conceive, but it all proved futile.
They had almost given up hope before the Moon goddess decided to answer them and bless them with a handsome bouncing baby boy.
Yeah, that's me.
Okay, enough about them. This story is about me—not them, okay?.
Let's focus on me.
Kael!, I heard my mom shriek in horror.
The next I knew, I was shoved off the ground by my mother, as some arrows whizzed past us.
Are you alright? She asked, checking my body to see if I'd been hit by any of the arrows.
I could hear the panic in her voice.
No mom. I replied, which eased her.
She looked behind her and we saw two men running towards us with bows and arrows in their hands.
Get behind me, she instructed, which I did.
She got into a stance, ready to attack. I could see her fangs coming out of her hands as she maintained her half human half wolf form.
The men were already closer to us, a disadvantage for them because they were unable to get a chance to shoot at us.
They charged at us and my mother caught them effortlessly, holding them by their throats with her hands. She snapped their necks, and I heard a popping sound.
They dropped dead instantly.
Bastards! She cursed.
Son, run now into your room, she instructed, but I hesitated.
Sensing my hesitation, she said to me
“Go now, I'll cover you. You don't have to worry son, you'll be safe as long as you do as you're told. Now go, she said, reassuring me of her protection.
I obeyed her and darted to the palace.
Pitch black
I can feel myself falling into what feels like an endless pit.
It's dark everywhere and I can't make out where I am.
I can see what seems like a glimmer of light far away above me. I stretch my hand in an attempt to get closer to the light, but it keeps getting farther from me.
The pains I'm feeling aren't making the struggle any easier.
Then I heard the voice again—my mother's voice, and it's calling out to me.
Kael! Kael!! Kael!!!, she called out to me.
Mother, is that you? I questioned.
Hearing her voice gave me a new strength and determination to fight the darkness engulfing me.
I began reaching once again for the light, and this time, it started moving closer towards—or am I the one moving towards it? I can't tell
The closer I get to the light, the brighter it gets and the louder my mother's voice becomes.
In an instance, the light became extremely bright and blinding, and all I could see was the light—everywhere.
Suddenly, everything went silent.
My eyes and ears are twitching.
I can hear movements and people's voices, it sounds like they're all in a hurry.
I can hear whispers, crying, and laughter?... I can't seem to make out all the voices.
“He's waking up” I heard a voice say—a man's voice.
Where the hell am I?
