Jonas’s POV I woke before dawn. Again. Habit was hard to break. For several seconds, I remained still on my blanket, listening to the rain tapping softly against the roof of the abandoned station while the last embers of the fire continued glowing faintly in the darkness. Something was different. I couldn’t say exactly what. But I could feel it. I turned my head slightly. And immediately found the answer. Callie. She was awake. Sitting near one of the open windows, watching the forest while the first gray light began filtering through the trees. She didn’t look afraid. She didn’t look exhausted. And that was exactly what worried me. Because for weeks, every significant change in Callie had been followed by something worse. Something new. Something none of us understood.
