Callie’s POV
“You saw them.”
Aurek’s voice cut through the silence of the abandoned station.
The embers still glowed faintly between us, casting trembling shadows across the aged wooden walls. For several seconds, I didn’t answer.
Because I could still see them.
The columns.
The white stone.
The women walking among them.
The feeling of belonging to a place I had never visited.
I swallowed slowly.
“How do you know?”
Aurek remained motionless.
The orange light of the fire etched deep lines of exhaustion across his face.
“It wasn’t the corridor.”
It wasn’t a question.
I nodded.
“No.”
Silence settled between us again.
Beside me, Asher was still asleep on one of the blankets. Jonas rested near the opposite wall. Both looked utterly exhausted after the last few days.
